After playing a good evening and putting aside the expectations. and also 1.13 patch.

Right then, I have give X:R as a spacesim as good chance.

The good:
I like the busyness of space, all those little space vehicles.
As one of the few people i kinda have taken a fancy to Yisha to she is an ok Copilot, and the station interiors and such in a different sector they are actually quite varied, though ofcourse lots of copy paste at the same time.

i been in the Canterran faction stations and they do have much beter things in them and more interesting.

The space combat i like alot aswell, just wish my weapons would stop firing in such odd patterns as if the weapon itself is moving all over the ship...

and the highways well i kinda have taken a fancy to them, despite them making me race past my targets several times...
but i have played freelancer ALOT in my past days, and the highways are pretty similar to there way of getting around, so please keep them, maybe make them just a little less obvious though, or add points where you can get on and off.

As for the campaign somewhat confusing but i do see a certain charm to it, Voice actors aside...most really need to be replaced or just certain dialogs be cut out, like "show me your skills"

Controls.
These are solid enough, the mouse folow mode is good, as always in my opinion.

The UI
Please please please please by the gods redo this atrocity.

Greets
Jessy.

Highways should allow you to get off at any point, but it's actually better to go slower so you can see the signs for a new zone. If you go super fast in the highway it can be missed.

I think the mini-game should be cut. It's not that useful. I actually tend to ignore it, as I can't see anything with a ship on my nose.

I think highways should go quite fast in between zones, with more transparency on the effect around you so you can see and leave if needed, and when approaching a zone you automatically slow down so you can catch it.

Super highways should be fairly fast on default. No mini-games on either. No tailgating with a ships aft on your nose (I've had one inside my cockpit)

My first impression of the game was a bad one....

See here
http://www.theengineeringguild.co.uk/node/324

The UI made it extremely hard to get in too, took me 6 hours to learn basic keys for stuff and how to use them because it was simply not explained anywhere. Docking for example.

So I am in no way surprised at the bad responses people gave the game when the tutorial needs a tutorial....

But when you get past that, X is actually pretty good. There is more here than missing features. You can do missions to make money, go scanning for crates in space, search stations for crates. Or you can trade with the Albion.

All of which makes XR much easier to learn than past X games...

But you have to figure out how the UI works first because thats want makes all users dislike the game from the first minute they play it.

It would be better if they simply allowed you to control your speed manually... why minigame? It's nauseating. Want to go as fast as possible - press throttle up, want to see surroundings clearer and have time to react if you want to leave at some point - press throttle down. As simple as that.

I'm fine with the mini game but only if it where based on actual traffic. The game seem to spawn a lot of ships once you're inside the highways. Strange and a big step from the "virtual realism".

To compensate from fewer ships, they could just increase the base speed some.

I'm enjoying the game alot.Have not had any issues except for a couple crashes in 48 hrs of gameplay.

I wish the highways weren't so much in your face. It's like looking up at the sky around Heathrow airport at all the streaks planes leave as they pass.

I would have designed it so the Story arc took you into the middle of the cities. It's the most beautiful part of the game watching all that manufacturing happening.
Maybe doing some policing work as part of the plot allowing the player to understand the importance of identifying a whole city before making them jump from freeway to freeway.
More care should of have been taken in the Plot missions. There is not enough build up in one area.
It's like they are in a rush to get you to build a Forge. Why?

You could have removed half the freeways by developing the story arc better.

I think only the superhighways should stay.
The player should have spent time doing combat, escort, defense, assasination, trade, mining missions first around the starter city.
Earning enough money for a propulsion system similar to the Transwarp used in Star Trek Online. That's all we needed not the crisscrossed highways.
It's a blight to the universe.

The game has been devouring the hours, that definitely counts for something. :)

I flipped out over all the bugs in the campaign and went free playing. Much better performance and I focus more on the universe and the experience of exploring and building. I actually have a great time playing free style.

I agree that the menus could just as well have remained as in x3, i see no improvement, it still is a blast of chaos just as in x3.

I so however dislike the way navigation map takes away the front view and stops the ship. A bit annoying that I have to get out of the ship for hiring staff but acceptable.

I love how huge and rich stations and space is in generality.

I keep repeating myself, but...
I always expected that when you buy a ship you can give it more commands than follow/stay. I also expected the "stay command" would actually work.
Also expected that when docked at a station, I wont return to my ship being almost destroyed - especially when you see your ship docked...

Silly me, with all these unreasonable expectations...
