It is IMPERATIVE that you get the Workshop up and running!
Please EGOSoft, I beg of you, get the workshop up and going like, yesterday. The amazing modding community are basically the only people that can save this game right now - they've already gone about fixing a couple of the horrible design decisions that have been pushed into this game.
Getting the workshop up and allowing people to download the improvements quickly and more importantly easily (compared to previous modding when thinking about your average gamer) can take some of the sting out of the pain many of your fans are feeling right now. There are already some good mods out there.
I beg of you, get the workshop up, it's your only hope.
Edit:
And yes, I know about the nexus - the point is MOST people who own this game right now don't and that's the problem. Everyone with Steam knows there is a Steam Workshop and EGOSoft has said they will be putting it up, I am simply stressing the importance of getting this up right now to ease the disappointment many are feeling. There are a number of QoL changes done already by the amazing modding community of the series, but most don't know that.
Please, just get the workshop rolling.

Pretty sure they're gonna concentrate on fixing the game first before caring much about Workshop integration.
Also, as it has been said, workshop has a bunch of inconvenient downsides. Up until now the games didn't even have a nexusmods page and it worked fine. There is no pressing need for workshop integration, even less with the nexusmods page now available.

As I said, I understand there is a nexus page now, and that's great. The issue is the vast majority of players will never even hear about that page whereas the workshop logo is plastered right under the Play button through Steam.enenra wrote:Pretty sure they're gonna concentrate on fixing the game first before caring much about Workshop integration.

The modding community as a whole probably has hundreds of times the manpower hours going into the game right now than the dev team at egosoft simply because there are far more modders than there are devs.
Yes, EGOSoft needs to fix their stuff, the sooner the better, but I believe the modding community can greatly decrease the amount of disappointment many are feeling right now, and the more people that know what the amazing mod community here (as well as those who would normally not mod unless there is a workshop) are doing the better - not to mention it would probably bring in a lot more modders as well.
Again, I'm well aware EGOSoft is trying to fix their game, but opening the workshop quickly, in my opinion, would only bring good to the game.

There's also another downside for modders.
If installation is as easy as clicking a button in Steam, modders will be expected to do tech support for people who don't know anything beyond clicking a single button.
If a mod is found on the nexus or in a forum topic, the user base is limited to those who can manage to *sort of* download, extract, and copy files. =)
And no, this isn't "basics". Not for everyone.

i dont know what your talking about, myself and others are using it fine, please post your bug report in my thread and make sure you've updated to v0.02dfm5000 wrote:Nexus has already added a section for X-Rebirth, not to mention anything people create as of now is being broken by patches.
The ship command mod if indeed it worked at all has been destroyed by 1.13.

Come on, think about how silly your reply is. People have been modding games for a very long time and can easily give explanations through the Workshop as they do through here in writes ups (which is exactly what they do here and at nexus). Copy/pasting isn't hard.Gazz wrote:There's also another downside for modders.

Other people, in my experience, are more than happy to explain and help people that are having problems as they do all the time here - many people, who aren't the mod creates, answer simple questions all the time.
I guess I just didn't realize how anti-workshop people here are even though it has done absolute wonders for many other games out there.
Nevermind then..

For the record: I'm not "the people". I'm only me.
If someone wants to put a mod on Steam, I don't have a problem with that.

To be fair Gazz is right.
There is a big difference between Mod users on Nexus and users of Steam Workshop.
-Skyrim was a major example of this, when workshop was added to it, many people did not (and many still don't) understand the effect of patches on the mods they are using and others not understanding that one mod may interfere with another. Its true that there are users of both that will help troubleshoot issues, at the same time from observing workshop and using it myself there is often a great amount of abuse hurled at mod authors for not being available or knowing the solution to a users problems on a 24/7 basis.
Fact is many mod users on workshop do tend to believe that mod creators/authors are meant to do tech support. Just because the creator made the mod at X rebirth patch 1 doesn't mean they will be around at patch 10, let alone releasing compatible versions of that mod.
That said workshop is a great idea as long as it is well implemented, give the game time to be stabilised and early release blues/patches to be dealt with. Doing so will also allow modders time to have something releasable for said feature, nothing worse than a game having few/if any mods on the workshop.
Copy/paste/unzipping may not seem difficult to some/us, but there are others who don't understand how to unzip at all let alone find correct directories.

It's probably an issue with the mod ID and not the actual mod. Try changing the mod ID (I noticed quite a few using 1.0, tsk tsk)Jack08 wrote:i dont know what your talking about, myself and others are using it fine, please post your bug report in my thread and make sure you've updated to v0.02dfm5000 wrote:Nexus has already added a section for X-Rebirth, not to mention anything people create as of now is being broken by patches.

Nexus is for people of average or higher intelligence. Steam Workshop is for those who mistake their dvd disk tray for an automatic cup holder.Hellaciouss wrote:Come on, think about how silly your reply is. It seems strange to me to be willing to distribute a mod publicly, but not too publicly.-Skyrim was a major example of this, when workshop was added to it, many people did not (and many still don't) understand the effect of patches on the mods they are using and others not understanding that one mod may interfere with another. Its true that there are users of both that will help troubleshoot issues, at the same time from observing workshop and using it myself there is often a great amount of abuse hurled at mod authors for not being available or knowing the solution to a users problems on a 24/7 basis.
Skyrim had a relatively ****** mod system with notorious compatibility problems. And many good mods required SKSE which could not be Workshopped afaik. Nevertheless Workshop was a superior method for obtaining mods regardless of ones interest or computer skill. Auto updates alone are pretty huge. I have little interest in following 15-20 different mod threads for updates. Finding mods is much easier, no need to futz with a Nexus membership (ugh). Bear in minds auto updates are useful for the mod author too since you don't have to deal with people using outdated versions of the mod ;p
Honestly it is and always has been up to mod authors to alert users to compatibility issues, it's kind of important. Even so, I never saw this hostility being ascribed to Workshop in even one mod thread.
Really?Nexus is for people of average or higher intelligence. Steam Workshop is for those who mistake their dvd disk tray for an automatic cup holder.

You stay classy.
Irrational factors are clearly at work.

That's a matter of personal opinion, one some modders may share with you, but others won't. Some modders may not like the membership issue of nexus, or the fact that there is no auto-update through nexus, or the fact few people even know it (nexus) exists. It's also very easy to publish through Steam and the fact that there is no silly bandwidth restrictions like nexus. Many people don't want to have to sign up to yet another website with some paywalled features.enenra wrote:Most if not all of the people here see it from the user end. This is a modding forum. The people here will see it from the other end, from the provider's perspective. And workshop isn't as good as nexus for mod providers. Thus you're not gonna find much enthusiasm for it here.
Anyway, anyone who wants to use nexus is fine to use nexus, but they need to get the workshop going so those who prefer Workshop can get their mods published through the workshop and available to more people than nexus would ever dream of reaching.
Also, I don't get the hostility. We're all on the same team here, trying to make this game better, something that could take EGOSoft a long while to do as they are beholden to the publisher and modders aren't.

The hostility comes from people being intent on giving the modders more work than they already have. The workshop is without any doubt less convenient from a modder's perspective compared to the nexus. Many modder here don't like being told by players that they are entitled to a system that causes modders more work and is a hassle to maintain.Hellaciouss wrote:That's a matter of personal opinion, one some modders may share with you, but others won't. But as we're clearly on opposite ends of the spectrum of opinions here, I'm going to now leave this topic and let you discuss this to all hell with other people while I do some actual modding instead.
