Fatal Error

Well among the enumeral general bugs i ran into a fatal error.

I had just bought the large freighter in DeVries which when finished, i tried to dock with and it crashed my game giving me the following error:

"A fatal error has occured and X cannot recover:
missing template connection in component
'props_surf_ar_docks_size_xl_inv_macro'
Version 1.12 - Code revision 178884M

Please inform Egosoft technical support."

So that's what i'm doing.

Other bugs i've enountered can be listed below:
  • Missing data screen bug (where door animation fails to play and the position of the camera and Yisha is off)
    Friendly ships do not fire at enemies.
    Friendly ships follow regardless of whether they are in my squad.
    Several station component texts missing at DeVries shipyard
    Capital ships intersect station and other ships frequently
    It is possible to assign two Architects to the Construction ship from plot missions (this breaks interaction with the ship)
    Construction ship cannot be given orders.
    Bralor frigate can't refuel due to being unable to interact with stations
    Architect money assignment is broken (scale stars with saying both have equal amounts of money (amount is players money exactly) sliding scale and confirming does nothing)
    Assigning ships under the command of anything else makes it impossible to reassign that ship or have any useful interaction with it like taking it back into your squad.
    Assigned crew cannot be moved or fired.
    Wharf's at shipyard in DeVries do not show up on map
    Wharf's at shipyard in DeVries can not be fully scanned (total zone scan stops at 87%)
    Wharf's at shipyard in DeVries are missing station part texts.
    Cutscene after hiring people in DeVries shows Albion Skunk in exterior lighting even when in enclosed hangar.
    And a few more that i cannot presently remember...
The following are issues that generally irk me but are not nessisaraly bugs:
  • Conversation/hacking minigame lacks any explanation or introduction.
    Capital ship interaction is severly limited, there are no orders other than trade and travel.
    Owned ship orders/trips cannot be canceled.
    Station scanning gets tedious and boring very quikcly.
    Can't station parts (i) symbol does not always show up.
    Can't scan station part unless (i) symbol is visible
    Defense officers do not seem to have any useful purpouse.
    Engineers on ships do not seem to repair anything.
    UI generally feels very klunky, this was true in the old X games too but at least in the old X games we had basic interaction and could order things around, though an improved UI was soreley needed this UI is too basic and limits possible interaction.
After 23 hours of play (yes really :D) i also have some suggestions about what could make the UI and owned ship interaction better. (Off topic)

Make use of the map, RTS style control where you can select a unit, have multiple command buttons like Move, Jump, Attack, Patrol etc but you can right click where on the map etc or other units. also have units be selectable in map and make the map zoomable (with UI buttons).

I was just able to replicate the fatal error preciseley.

I bought a fully kitted Scaldis freighter at the shipyard in "Damned Hot Air" in DeVries.

I got the fatal error when trying to dock with the ship.

I don't know if its significant but i was also having the cockpit animations freeze bug both times.

I think someone else a carrier from the shipyard in Damned Hot Air in DeVries and got the same exact error.

Yes i've seen a few threads pop up since i posted this pertaining to the same issue.

I did some testing on this though:

It seems this bug happens some of the time with specific classes of ships and that when it does not happen the game adds a generic and somewhat bugged makeshift captain to the ship, the times when this bug happens the ship has no such captain.

likeley theory is that the ship was not initialized properly and is missing this basic control making it so the "interior" space along with captain do not exist, thus the game does not know what to reference.

So what you're telling me is that I just wasted most, if not all of my money that I had on a bugged out ship because x rebirths damn ship builder is bugged. and to add insult to injury, now I can't build anything else at the DeVries shipyard because my damn bugged ship is blocking the construction area, which also lacks an captain/pilot, and I can't dock with it to add one. I guess my only hope is that someone figures out a way to edit the xml save file to add one in for the bugged ship.

Yep that seems to be right, interesting that you mention editing the save file though, i think it may be possible, if by using a "healthy" ship as a reference it should be possible to add in the missing elements manually, i'll give it a go tomorrow, i was looking through the fille earlier after it occured to me that such a fix may be possible but finding any logic in the structure of the file and figuring out what to change where is a bit of a nightmare at this pioint.

Did the ship have a captain or any basic comms interaction?
I didn't have any problems buying an Arawn at all, i wonder if there is any common factor that could be the cause and possible work-around.

No nothing, cant move the ship, cant call the ship on the comm and cant dock with it to transfer crews.
It just sits there in the docks.

Buying the Arawn isent a problem, it is when you put it to use by trying to dock and transfer captain, engineer, defence officer etc it all starts.

I read in one of the other threads about the same bug that some people have been able to buy identical ships and have them working but only the first time, while the second attempt results in the bug. have you tried selling the ship and then buying it again?

Nope, same error as before.

A nice thought by Egosoft tho, its when you sell the ship it doesnt just disappear. I sold mine to the Republic of Cantera (the ship dealer in DeVires) and then they put it to use instead... Nice thinking there Egosoft, I like it :)

Its a shame that didn't work but wtg Egosoft! I really like that :)

Well then i guess we are down to two options, fix it through editing the save file or wait until Egosoft patches the problem.

Thanks for the headsup.

I am also experiencing this error. Ive build both Arawn and 2 Fedheim´s mining ships, without problems. And now both the Ship yard in Shady Vault, and Darn Hot Air seems broke, one is stuck at a ship construction, and the Darn Hot Air one is finishing the ship, but giving the same error as OP when trying to dock.


Please fix it as soon as possible, ive put 33 Hours into this game now, and im really limited by this bug as i want a station :p

I'm really looking forward to this fix as it's blocking me from even enjoying the economy in any real way.

I reinstalled the game hoping that it might be a corrupted installation and the problem still persists.

Without this fix, I have no reason to play. I thought that if I could at least get a trading fleet going, I could start making credits in preparation for the other fixes blocking my gameplay.

I won't be playing rebirth anymore except to check that this works. This is a big game breaker for me.

Can now confirm that docking with your own carrier as Arawn now is possible, thank you Egosoft :)

Time to annihilate some Plutarch :twisted:
