The problem is, releasing a teaser video 2 years ago and them nothing, literally, make people belive the game was cancelled or its about to, every person i told and shared that teaser with, today, they either dont care or think the game was cancelled.

That's a bit of an exaggeration, but nevertheless I did explain this before. It was a while back and in the first incarnation of this thread, though, so I'll quote it again here for you.

CBJ wrote:
The information about the game that you've seen here on this forum should be considered a little sneak preview that we were able to persuade the publishers to let us show you in advance of any kind of marketing campaign. We did this because we wanted to let you guys know what we were up to, so that we didn't have to keep referring to "TNBT". At the time we did this the forums were awash with rumours of our untimely demise, and we wanted to show people that that wasn't the case. Of course instead we now have a whole new bunch of rumours and conspiracy theories, but hey, plus ça change!

jamesormiston wrote:
I get this, and I wasn't suggesting the game were actually cancelled as I pointed out, just that I have seen the alienation of the fans in all this secrecy, and as great as the final reveal may be what does a few screenshots or a goodwill video of content already announced (maybe a flyby of a capital ship, it need only be 7 seconds long) to keep everyone placated hurt in the sales or hype department as it wont hurt your final reveal? A few months of darkness, as you said, builds tension, but a couple of years makes the fans feel like they've been forgotten in favor of obscure marketing tactics, and the true strength of this game series lay, and still lies, in its fanbase...so it doesn't seem economically viable, let alone, polite, to leave them hanging for so long.

I didn't say anything about building tension. The gap between the initial announcement of development and the pre-release marketing campaign is to allow the game to be developed, not some "obscure marketing tactics" involving building tension. The time to market a game is when it's nearly ready for release; it's as simple as that. As for "leaving people hanging" or "forgetting" them, that's emotive language and pretty disingenuous at that. Going back to the Christmas present analogy, it's a bit like using the line "if you loved me you'd tell me what was in that parcel" on your parents!

shea wrote:
But i still cant understand why a few screenshots every week cant be posted,

The irony of this is that when we were posting weekly screenshots, people were complaining that it wasn't enough and demanded videos. When we provided a video they demanded gameplay information. The reality is that no matter what we provide, people will always want more, and this thread will run on regardless, with those people who are inclined to do so getting irate and impatient. Again, we know people want more information, but despite what some of those may people think, doing what they want isn't always the right course of action when the bigger picture is taken into account.

shea wrote:
Sure if there was more and more people would visit the forums and wouldnt forget about the game...

Having a busy and active forum with lots of discussion going on is nice, and we have a great community here many of whom stick around to chat even when they are not actively playing any of our games. However it isn't actually essential that everyone who might be interested in our next game hangs around here for the entire duration of the game's development. The people who stay, playing the existing games and chatting about their hopes for the next one, form the core of the community, but the vast majority of people just get on with their lives until they hear about a game they want to play. That's where the marketing campaign comes in, and that's when it's important to get them here and get them excited about the release. Of course it's great if they've already heard about the game a while back and the marketing is just a reminder, but that too is just a bonus.

Toramo wrote:

* Is this will be release both on steam and store at the same time ?
* Who will make the marketing campaign, ES or DS ?
* Will we be able to see the game at some game convention like E3 etc ?

We are the developers; we don't do marketing. That's the publisher's job, and they're not likely to tell you what the marketing campaign will consist of in advance, because that would be self-defeating.

We're doing well, thanks for asking! Every job has its ups and downs, but I can say from my own experience that working on software features "because they are cool" is a whole lot more satisfying them than working on software features because they are, for example, required by government regulations. I also don't think anyone would work in the games industry if they didn't fundamentally enjoy what they were doing. As for the beer and the day off, you can't even begin to imagine... Smile

In other words Deepsilver is controling all information and everything that is happening before game is released....Ego job is to develop game and Deepsilver is doing marketing and information for game...(so we are barking up the wrong tree ) Very Happy Anyway Deepsilver have more experience than EGO with game releases that's why they are doing what Deep. tell them to do because Ego want's to be successful(and i do to because they will make better games in future )...If Deep. is right about this strategy we don't know because we don't have expirience like they do...Time will tell what is going to hapen...Anyway Ego cant do nothing about this until marketing or after game release Confused And they can than support us with information and tec services Very Happy I't looks like game is not almost done or marketing would start by now so game is not going to be out anytime soon and this is big game for EGO so they will give it extra time for marketing too Very Happy But that's up to Deepsilver when and how they are going to do it Sad

Sorry bad English

If you can't publish ANY info, because the big guys wont let you, well I understand it is not your fault and doing. I can imagine a lot of people working on X:R are not thrilled about this as well.

You know, I my country we have a saying: "the customer is king" and I've heard the English phrase "the customer is always right" dozens of times.

In this case WE are not king nor are we right. It's EGOSOFT's way or the highway...simple as that. And I totally disagreed with the comment that ..."not giving them that information does not equate to ignoring them.". Sorry...but yes it does. It equates to "We'll let them blow off steam, not give them any information, and they'll still be back. Why? Because this is how we run things." Very bad way to treat your loyal customers. Those that will be buying your product and keeping you in business.

Yes, that is true. Sad AND true. Crying or Very sad

avante999 wrote:

All I am saying is; some one otherwordly is very wrong in not releasing ANY info to the masses.

You'd think releasing SOME info (c'mon...a screenshot maybe? But even that is asking too much)...and if the game is even halfway done, 3/4, 7/10, 3/31, WHATEVER...a company that wants to keep supporters would release something to keep us coming back for more.

But, alas, they do not. And they anger and are swift to mute those that look for more information or at least display their frustration for the lack of information.

I hope X:R will be an epic game, but I also any following X will be funded and published like Star Citizen. Man I just love updates & transparancy!

I'm sure it will be. I have no doubts in that regard. If anything, EGOSOFT produces KILLER products!! That's never been questioned. Only their ability to keep their customers, those that pad their pockets, in the dark.

And yes...I have returned. Twisted Evil

I think Egosoft knows what it's doing. The only thing left to do is wait until the game is done. It may take a while for the game to ship, but there are plenty of other interesting things happening in the meantime. That's just my take on it.

The waiting around for a release date sucks. If the game isn't released until the end of 2013 it will suck even more. I'm talking more suckage than a porn star with a vacuum cleaner.

But it's not really fair to have a go at CBJ or direct your frustration at him. He's done more than any other Egosoft employee, minus Bernd, in giving us information about the game and it's progress.

If it wasn't for him I think most of us would of jumped off the Egoship, shouting sinking, long ago.

Edit: When's the next newsletter due anyhow?

AAAAAHHAHAHAHAHA! Very Happy

I have all the patience in the world. I hope they don't release this game until it is absolutely flawless, but it would be nice to have a more precise release date. If I knew I had enough time I might even build a new PC so I can play X Rebirth on maximum settings. Otherwise I may have to settle with a quick hardware upgrade, or worse: lower settings!

Read it again, I'm not asking for a simple confirmation that yes, the game is going to be out this year, I'm asking for some proof that it will be...

I read it perfectly well the first time:
jamesormiston previously wrote:
We just want to know that there is still going to be a game this year, cause it's been 2 years now with little more than a few pictures of drones to go on

And when X2-Illuminatus provided exactly that, confirmation from someone official that the game was still due this year, you said:
jamesormiston previously wrote:

It depends on the language used in 2011 and 2012 - did Egosoft say that the game will be released in either of those years, or did they say that the game was planned for release. If the latter, then plans change, and it was never a firm commitment. The language I've heard this time is much more suggestive of commitment to release in 2013.

Even so, unfortunately, nothing is certain. If the pizza companies in Germany suddenly went on strike, a disaster of that magnitude could cause considerable distress in Egosoft, and the devs, lacking the fuel they require for their best efforts, may slip behind and cause it to be delayed even further.

It's a question of how likely something is to come up and further delay the game. Reading between the lines of recent posts by ES employees, they foresee no likelihood of major delays, and are confident of release this year.

Hmm i think they are doing pretty good job so far with resources what they have and hand full of people .... They developed new game engine upgrading old engenes for X-games and releasing X3,X3TC,X3AP and at same time working on XR and updates/patches for all games and all in 5 years Smile If anything they are doing outstanding job... Anyway for all we know maybe game was done 2012 but now they managed to get more money and they are adding new features and make game better for us without having to pay for DLC later on and things like that Very Happy
And they can't tell us anything about game and what they are doing because of Deepsilver Evil or Very Mad
How would you feel if you wore doing everything in you'r ability to make something for someone and they are givig you just crap like this?

Sorry bad English

Yea... "Reading between the lines of recent posts by ES" to arrive at that conclusion is just another belief. It's just expectations and frustrations as usual.

There is no reading between the lines necessary. CBJ said that they are still on track to release this year. That means as far as he is aware there have been no delays that would cause the current release date to be postponed again.

That's my point, considering when CBJ says the marketing is DS's responsibility, it makes some people think that when DS puts XR's release date as "2011", then the following year puts it as "2012," then the following year puts it as "2013," it kind of makes it difficult to do anything but be baffled. I'm sure it clear to you. I'm just saying that to others it may not be based on simple discrepancies like that.

I'm not saying CBJ is doing anything but telling the truth. I just don't think it is so black and white of an issue.
