Why switch me off mouse follow mode when fighting.

Post by Brinnie »

When I am in the middle of fighting this annoying thing keeps happening, mouse follow mode is switched and I am left with the cursor when I really do not want it.

It usually happens when the message "Attention one of your ships is under attack, sector ...", but not exclusively.

I had a look around on the net but couldn't find anything about it.

Anybody else has the same problem?
Is there a way to fix it?

The default keybinds for the mouse control are keys that are very easily pressed (look under the Controls, Game section):

Toggle Cursor Flight Mode - Spacebar
Toggle Classic Flight Mode - Ctrl-N

Temporarily Activate Cursor Mode - Hold left mouse button (hidden)

I would recommend moving everything away from the left click and the spacebar. Remap Toggle Cursor Flight Mode to something else that you can't press by mistake (I have it as shift-\) and make sure you don't shoot your weapons with the left mouse button (map those to something else).

In addition, in Windows, go to the mouse control panel, and slow down the double-click speed, turn off the click lock, and generally try to make the mouse a bit less sensitive / fast.

I don't have this problem; it may be only on your computer / mouse setup.

It seems to happen more often when I am fighting Xenons, possibly when I am getting shot at by PBEs (and as mentioned above when the "one of your ships is ..." message is playing), but it could just be a coincidence.

It is certainly an intermittent fault as I might do a lot of fighting without this issue and then it might occur several times within the one fight.

I mentioned it here hoping that it is something that others have encountered and have found out how to fix.

Well, hopefully others will reply. Unfortunately, I can't help you, as I use a joystick and classic mode for the game. Sorry.

If you google "x3tc cursor mode", there are several threads talking about issues, but they don't seem to have the particular issue you're having.

It's not a big deal really, just a little annoyance.
