[MOD][AP] Advanced Weapons Research Mod (AWRM) [v1.4 - Sa-15-Jun-2013]

Hi Guys,

I am currently working on a mod to help improve the selection of weapons for Terran ships primarily and secondly to provide a way to obtain other weapons and equipment.

As of v1.1, this mod is for Albion Prelude V2.5 or later (for now). For the legacy Terran Conflict version see here.

For users of v1.3 (or prior) of this mod, a restart will be required.

This is basically a weapon expansion mod for X3 Albion Prelude:-
  • Adds more weapon variety to the Terran arsenal (31 new lasers)
  • Adds some more powerful but less energy efficient weapons for the Kha'ak (6 new lasers)
  • Adds some slightly more powerful weapons intended for use by the Xenon (5 new lasers)
  • Adds more powerful and energy efficient Commonwealth energy based weapons (16 new lasers)
  • Adds 4 new Commonwealth Point Defence Lasers (PDL) (IRE, PAC, HEPT, and PPC mount variants)
  • Adds more powerful Commonwealth ammo based weapons (6 new lasers)
  • Makes "Beam weapons" available to buy (Vanilla Kha'ak weapons only sold by JCRA and a Kha'ak owned station)
  • Converts a remote Unknown Sector to a Kha'ak Core sector
  • Converts a remote Xenon border sector to a Xenon Core sector
  • Includes a variant of my CPLS and PMTS scripts
  • Adds some new Terran and Commonwealth missiles (6 new Terran missiles and 6 new Commonwealth Missiles - some of which are intended for Player only use)
  • Adds some new Kha'ak missiles (6 new missiles) and changes the cargo requirement for the Needle to M
  • Generally improves equipment availability and makes most equipment immune to future unavailability due to GoD being overzealous in the destruction of factories
  • Adds 3 new alternatives to the Mosquito missile in the form of the Sentinel missile series.
  • Adds Enhanced and Advanced versions of the Mosquito missile for Commonwealth use.
  • Provides a supply of Terran and Teladi marines which increase in skill level (and cost) over time if not bought.

There are FOUR sectors with invincible stations created by AWRM and they are as follows.

Installation Instructions
WARNING: The AP version of this mod is not suitable for installation using the Plug-in Manager. It is recommended that this mod be installed manually to a copy of the the game directory.
  1. Download the desired ZIP file(s)
  2. Ensure that you have the AWRM_AP.zip distribution as opposed to the AWRM.zip distribution (the later is for TC).
  3. Extract the ZIP file(s) to a single (temporary) directory independent of the game
  4. Locate the main game directory of the copy of Albion Prelude you wish to mod
  5. Copy the extracted files/directories as-is to the main game directory (i.e. when the executable sits).

I think the Download link for the first ZIP file (the mod) is pointing to the second ZIP (Capital Ship Beam Laser Upgrade).

Also, i suppose the files on the Capital Ship Beam Laser Upgrade must be copied to /X3/addon/types folder right?

Edit: I suppose we have to make a new game right?. Also, since it edits the cockpit and ships file i think it's incompatible with cockpit mods. I have ITS installed and the terran ships got argon cockpits (didn't crashed outright, but when i opened my old save, the beams didn't fire and the game crashed with other gun).

The crash upon firing is a symptom of the game being unable to find the models for the bullets which must reside in the Terran Conflict directory.

BOTH ZIP files need to be extracted to the X3 Terran Conflict root directory, they include the addon path where possible and exclude the add-on path where it is not.

The Capital Ship Beam Laser Upgrade is an optional component, but if you do not add it (or something similar) then you will be unable to make full use of the anti-capital beam weapons. It was a quick fix for not having the Xtra Ships/Stations mod in AP.

Status Update
Since the initial release this morning (UK) the AWRM Start pack has been added. The start pack does not require the Capital Ship Beam Laser upgrade.

The start pack includes two new starts:-
  1. Terran Captain - Similar to Terran Commander start but starting in The Moon near Spirit Industries HQ, with better starting rep with the Terrans, and flying a Kyoto with a number of USC fighters docked
  2. Commonwealth Captain - Argon-Race Plot Start with the player starting in Grand Exchange near JCRA HQ with a Boron Megalodon and a 5 Aamon Prototypes docked

thanks Roger... loving this mod :D but i did have an issue with beam weapons not working... i found that if i move the objects and dds dir. to main tc dir. everything worked beautifully.. :)

They should be there anyway (I know they are with the ZIP). How are you installing the mod?

I had a feeling that the SPK install would not work properly with this mod. I think for AP mods it treats the addon folder as the root directory :rant:.

[rant]The addon folder is a kludge to allow TC and AP to share some of the same files and install directory but the job was only half-done IMHO.[/rant]

I will see what I can do about the SPK package for the next release (in the meantime I may consider removing the link to it as it does not install 100% correctly).

For some time some people have been asking for new weapons to be added to the TC version of AWRM (in particular a Terran GC). As of V1.1 (X3:AP only), there is the "High Yield Matter/Anti-Matter Launcher" which is intended to fill the requested role.

At this time, it is powered by the expensive and illegal (even in Terran Space) Matter/Anti-Matter Mine. Alternate suggestions for legal wares to use as ammo will be considered.

There is limited room for further additions (maybe a couple more) so if there are any other weapons you would like to see added please shout :)

Loving the varied loadout capabilities for the Terran, as I just started a Terran game to check out the new plot in AP 2.5. Looks like a good balance, especially when I went to attack a Pirate Blastclaw not expecting it to be packing a full loadout of Enhanced weapons. Those Enhanced PACs hurt, lol.


And I just fired my first few Vanguard Aldrin. Holy....crap.


EDIT: Any chance at MARS compatibility, or am I overlooking it somewhere?

The MARS files from the TC version should work with this version (although the balance has changed a bit between AP and TC).

Yeah the Vanguard Aldrin is a beast, and the Vanguard Earth is toned down from it's original version. They are the WMDs of the Terran arsenal ;)

Just watch out for the Commonwealth Advanced Firestorm Torpedos, they smart quite a bit :P

The Enh/Adv Commonwealth weapons were an attempt to make the Commonwealth a bit more threatening in the light of the new Terran weapons but I think the Terrans still have the edge... especially since the Terran fighters can pack insta-hit shield ignoring beam weapons and the capitals can pack the SSC mount rapid fire Prototype Fusion Beam Cannon which is great at anti-fighter/missile/drone defence given enough ship energy.

Alright I'll dig around for 'em. And I wasn't complaining, I love that the Commonwealth has some upgraded weaponry. After you get some fighter skill, dogfights become somewhat boring. Knowing I might get my a-- blasted off now brought the thrill of flying M3s back for me, so thanks for that!


I will admit, Adv.M/AML's on the Cadius Longbow Mk.2 almost feels like cheating, lol.



EDIT: After hours of searching, I believe I have hacked together a functional MARS config using the old values. Currently testing on latest releases of both AWRM and MARS, if I find no problems, I could post it if others are interested.

Kewl :D I was not taking your comment as complaining, I was just providing info for other readers of this thread ;)

Kewl, I don't use MARS myself but I know a few people will appreciate it :D At some point, I will have to find time to complete my updates to my Changeling tool so that it can be used to auto-generate MARS config files for AP.

would there be any known reasons all kyon emitters stop working after installing this mod?

they draw energy, but dont do any damage/have no beam.
even the ones from the mod.

everything else works fine as far as i can tell, just kha'ak weaponry is borked.

never mind i fixed it. i used X-Universe plugin manager instead of installing it right. didnt notice it wasnt correctly placing some of the stuff in the base TC folder.

Sorry for the delay in response. Yes, using Plug-in Manger to install... It does not currently work correctly with this mod.

As has been said many times already in this thread and why SPK form is not available for the AP edition of this mod.

You need to copy/extract the ZIP file contents directly to the root folder of the installation location (i.e. NOT the addin folder which Plugin Manager insists on using).

Hm, I think i screwed up the installation: My game crashes when certain terran ships tries to fire on me and the missiles 'vanguard xxx' are literally crates.

I used the .zip and extracted to the addons folder.

I am running Improved races 2.0, X-tra ship pack, board stations
