Well, I am still working on X Rebirth and so are lots of other people at Egosoft, so you'd better start working out the best way to prepare and serve that hat of yours. |
This is the only info people need to hear, why not say it earlier.
I will of course provide a screenshot of me attempting to eat my hat, but only after a release date

Leather or shoe cloth has better textural consistancy... than hat materials.
That being said I really wished egosoft realeased AP on Gamesstop.... it would be nice if rebirth is realeased there too. I hate steam with a passion... maybe steam is perfect with the ideal IP. But, my internet has a strict "fair access policy" that doesn't seem to agree with stream's need to update its every time I blink... not to mention it login gets glitchy with my internet. Gamesstop always seemed to have less login errors.

I will say Egosoft is in that famous part of the development cycle justly called "The Crunch".
Financially speaking Egosoft will have run theirs numbers on creating a new game with a new engine. They couldn't have lasted for so long if they weren't financially wise on what projects they can commit and afford.
They are the survivors of the genre, because frankly there in no one out there capable of doing a proper space game anymore. And if you get out of the Rebirth Forum you will notice that still new players keep joining the forums meaning a steady source of income for Egosoft.

Problem is spacegames are hard to find that are quality. Most gamers may have or shelved the idea that they can be a main stay. It is nice that we get a lil tidbit that it still coming out. Suppose the idea if 100,000 sales would mean success so we can see the new x4 or the like.

Still a post by CBJ won't cut it for long.
They eventually have to come up with some REAL feedback actually demonstrating progress.
So EGOSOFT is alive. Good for them. One working for them said they still work for the game. Great. That doesn't mean more that exactly what I mentioned. A 2014 XR that turned from space odyssey to a FPS still fits those statements.
Anyway since you DO work on the game, keep up the (I suspect) good work.

Thanks for the information! I was getting a bit worried. There are so few space games of quality anymore, be they 4X games or flight sims, that losing Rebirth would've been a seriously depressing blow for me.

Knowing the history of Egosoft and the size of Devnet... the majority of the 'old' fans know that short of a nuclear apocalypse Rebirth will be released regardless of what happens...
I remember the long years where news consisted of a new 'Soon' TM every three or so months! Sometimes they would mix it up by changing the font colour and one time they even changed the font size...
There was tears of joy that day on the forums...

I recall following with great anticipation any news about an official "Falcon 5" for ages from Lead Pursuit. They said they were working on it, there was a lot of interest, and....
It died. I don't even know when it died. People just kind of gave up hope, as the time between posts by the developer became fewer and farther inbetween, until they trickled into nothingness.
Not that I think this will be the case with Rebirth. Still, the longer they work on it, the longer they are going without a source of income from a new game to keep them afloat. They can't keep developing indefinitely, or it will eventually be canceled.

Not indefinitely but... how well are the X games selling right now? Albion and the Superbox must have given them a shot of cash, too.
P.S. The longer they take, the more likely it is that I'll finally finish that HUB plot!

Another thing to remember is that it wouldn't be very smart for them to release anything while sales of X3:TC and X3:AP are still going well. As soon they release rebirth then the sales for the previous games are sure to drop. If it was me I would wait until sales of the previous games hit a certain threshold before release to insure maximum profits.

yes an interesting point.... though I imagine deepsilver the publisher would want as much profit as possible as well... and may have more interest in getting REBIRTH to market sooner than later...
so I think that the steam generated sales have bumped our registered forum members numbers a fair bit since it was introduced although there is only ever a miniscule macroscopic fraction of players ever posting here, the number atm is:
"We have 405612 registered users"
now if i recall accurately from a few years back, thats about double of what was recorded here since Reunion was released... so yep, Egosoft is gaining some ground there...
