So I'm Argon Hero of the Federation.... at 3%.
I do 3 station building missions, all are Hard or Very Hard, for the Argon specifically, and it's still at 3%.
Then I spend a few hours in SETA to let my factories run, which are all in Argon space, selling almost totally to the Argon traders... and it drops to 2%.
It's now down to 1% !!!
Whaaaaaat am I missing ???

Several hours? I assume you don't use some sort of external app that would send keypresses to the game to make it think you are still there? If not, leaving game on SETA will drop all of your ranks and race reputations. A huge number of UT or CAGs might compensate for this, but you probably don't have enough.

Once you reach the maximum rank, you cannot gain any more rep with that race

If you look at the point system for the ranks, it's an exponential curve, where 1% of the max rank is twice the amount of work required to go from Rank 0 to Rank 6. You're going from 333,333 to 1,000,000 (so that's 666,667 points), and 1% of that is 6k.

So how many points do you get for doing station building missions?
I guess not even 1%...

Not sure, but you get points, not a percentage of your level. So if you're at 0, one mission may put you to 500 (which is a couple ranks), but when you're at the top, 500 points out of 1 million might not even be noticeable.

It's not just that, at the top rank your progress is artificially lowered. That has been tested an analyzed in many posts before, I won't enter in details now.

Kapakio's right. If you do a hard mission at 99% of the second to top rank, you'll get about 30% of the way into the top rank. Do it at 0% of the top rank and you're lucky to get a 1% increase.

So basically I need to let my reputation drop to 99% and then do a mission to kick it back up.
Thanks all for the replies!

Don't try messing with your rep now you have it - it seems that when you're at the top, you'll fall a couple of ranks for all but the tiniest of crimes, and rep gain is pretty random. Just keep working at it, and you'll get there in the end, probably a couple of hundred million credits richer.

Pretty sure it only affects trade and fight ranks, not race reps.
