Ooh thanks for the heads up I guess I know what I'll be spending a lot of this week doing. Space planes look hard. Very Happy

I have tried heaps of times to download this game from the kerbal site and it always dies after 8mb download. I have not once had any sucess, even at the alternative mediafire site (which currently gives the message "this file is set to private, only the owner can access this file"). I've just tried now, again after some months - same thing - So im not wasting any more time on it.

Huh, never heard about that problem. Do you have some odd antivirus running?

Well, it's kerbal v1.5, and now it's $15.00, but so far my only expereinces with the 'free' development versions was *zero* download. I tried it many times since I became aware of this thread.

I don't know about what is a 'normal download' but now there is only a demo version available for download and the MediaFire file download fails as I described just before "you must be the owner ... etc'.

MediaFire changed their hosting service from a megaupload-style file sharing site to a Dropbox style private one, so old mediafire links will not work.

Don't use any download accelerators, etc. Just use the browser's native download control, 'coz the server does not appear to support resume.

I've build a spaceplane which kind of works! Laughing

The wings aren't quite in the right place to keep it level without my intervening constantly, but it gets off the ground (often tailless if I pull up too quickly) and can bank around then land without blowing up when I'm piloting well. I think my favourite new feature is the deployable landing gear. So fun to mess with, especially the noisy gear for landers. Very Happy

Here's my first successful attempt at a plane of any type. It's certainly not a space plane but it does fly quite nicely provided you have the SAS on. If you don't it becomes an unbalanced flying (then crashing) death trap.

I finally managed to make it into orbit around minmus! due to a bug in my design (i accidently connected fuel lines to the landing gear) i had to jetison my spare tanks and now dont have enough fuel to land or return back to Kerbal.

Not that I've workout out how to return to Kerbal. When I tried from Mun i ended up in a solar orbit.

Return is easy. Break orbit such that you wind up with little tangential velocity relative to Kerbin. Your orbital map shows you how fast and in what direction the mun or minmus is going so you know what velocity you need to cancel. And the patched conics display makes navigation much easier. You can get back from Minmus with a few hundred m/s of dV since it moves so slowly and has such low gravity.

Thanks Andrewas, I managed to successfully land on minmus and return to Kerbin. Not without issue of course Smile

I misjudged my landing site on Minmus and landed on a rather steep hill, destroying my landing gear, so i had to take off in a hurry.

I was aiming for the spacecentre but unfortunatly reduced my orbit too quickly and hit the atmosphere, the tiny little engine I had installed was not powerful enough to reestablish orbit, so I had to splash down in the sea.

All in all, a succesfull run Smile

I am so bad at this game it's not even funny.

Had it for 2 days now, managed to build a rocket to get into orbit and a plane that can fly at normal altitudes.

Mun? Never.

Correction, it's Kerbal v0.15! It's still early alpha, and won't reach 1. anything until it gets to release.

Well, it took the NASA ten years, it's no shame if you don't manage it in the first week… Laughing

All my rockets keep flying sideways... I've got to get better at building them Razz

I also had one that was too heavy to take off and when I hit space to see if the next stage could fly the bottom stage blasted up through the rest of the rocket. Still makes me laugh thinking about it Smile

Have a good one,
Freddy
