I thought the requirments have been raised since the first x3. I thought it took me a couple of months, I didn't play x3 the whole time. Then after that I tried it again, and well I think I lack the patience...

^ well, i was quite releived when that patch came out which reduced some of the requirements for it - as I had not started the Hub mission at that point, and thought: 'Yippee', but it still took ages just the same... I feel real sorry for the pilots who worked through the original. There should be a seperate medal just for them imo Smile "I am an original Hub Mission Survivor".

I have just finished it in X3TC (with latest patch), I needed around 2 months of playing.

Microchips took almost half that time because I didn't prepared the microchip complex in time; comparing to that time crystals and silicon wafers were easy to collect (existing complexes, CAGs).

It took me a couple of weeks, IIRC, and I put very little effort into the Hub itself.

Mostly, I earned credits by doing other things; set maximum pricing at the Hub, and let the NPC's do the boring work. I figured that I could afford to be patient if I was doing something fun.

The only thing I had to supply was Teladianium, which I did with a couple of CLS2 freighters flying between the NPC foundries and the Hub.

The only "trick" was that my game computer ran 24x7. No SETA; I just left it running while I did other things. I had a large Fuel/Weed complex and about 25 UT's earning credits while I slept. When I played the game, I boarded ships and did Nividium mining in Undefined Space with a wing of Falcon Haulers collecting rocks behind my frigate. (I prefer frigate over TL for mining due to stronger shields and main guns for breaking up chunks.)

It was fairly painless that way.

Not done yet but I can easily pick my option. I've taken my original 'vanilla' game out of storage and now I'm trying to finish the HUB.

(Two of my biggest complexes have only small-sized Crystal Fabs, which should give folks an idea about how old this play-through is.)

I'm still working on getting 10+ Arans (have 8 or 9 neeed to play the game again as I put it on hold to watch anime) to haul all the plot stuff I need. But, otherwise I just need the rep and wait for my complexes to pooh out what I need. Very Happy

Been on a break from X3 for a while again. Was thinking of picking it up again...until I read this topic and remembered I still have the active hub plot....

*puts X3 back down*

Never tried it, but I intend to do it in my current game. Since it's a DiD, and my character is thus totally oblivious to the requirements, I can't prepare and have to build complexes as I go along. That alone will probably make this an excersise in frustration, but we'll see Razz

Just finished the Hub Plot... took forever but then again I didn't really spend too much effort on it.

I cant remember the exact time, but i did start out the last TC game knowing that i will need a ton of stuff for it. I had CAGs collecting stuff for it from the time i could afford to have extra ships faffing about. It was a overly complex operation, CAGS buying stuff dropping it off at a trade station, then more ships picking it up and dropping it off in mammoths. Once i got control of the hub, i switched the CAGs to the hub and just let it build it's self. Oh and as a side note, i had the PHQ, any ship i captured that i didn't have a schematic for i would recycle and send the reclaimed parts to the hub.

Originally it was 750K crystals and 250K microchips. From quick check it seems the others are actually the same.

Took me a month or so of real-time playing to complete this without any preparation but lots of creative use of trade command s/w, CAG and CLS1&2. Gave me the chance to do other plots in the mean time.
  • Used CAGs to buy most things and even force-fed e-cells to the 3 Teladianium foundries in Grand Exchange.
  • Used mobile miners to deliver silicon/ore.
  • Built a chip complex, to provide crystals at first then chips later - that's what took the longest.
  • Funded by station build missions mostly although the chip complex (30 chip fabs) turns a tidy profit now.

What I'd have done differently, knowing what I know now: Built a large booze complex for the primary funding to ease the grind of station build missions (on top of building my own complexes!) and not to build a very profitable chip complex in a sector owned by a race I've decided to go to war with! (Spring of Belief)

Of course, if I do decide to start a fresh game ... I'll clone the **** out of those microchips! could have the whole thing done in a couple of hours Wink
