Im starting the 2nd part of the hub plot which will probably take me a little bit so in the mean time i was thinking of continuing the OFF plot. Im on the second mission of OFF and im currently at the specialist combat rank. Best combat ship i currently have is the vidar (gotten from terran plot) which currently has no weapons, not sure if they in the cargo hold or if they just gone. I was thinking of equipping it fully with m/amls but not sure about which missiles, possibly spectres or poltergeists or maybe some of both.

Will the OFF plot be do able with a vidar equippes as such or should i invest in something bigger like an m7 or m8? I currently have 190m or so. I think ill need maybe 30mil or less for a teladianium complex and some extra silicon mines for the hub, the rest should be free and clear for whatever.

Oh yeah before i forget i got 17 marines, 12 stranded in aldrin and the other 5 are training at a military outpost so im not really able to go highjacking, so if i should invest in something else please suggest a purchasable ship, race doesnt really matter to me.

You can probably do most OFF missions in your Vidar, however I'm not so sure if you can do the last one. Well you probably can, but it'll take some time to finish off what you face in there.

Personally I'd go with an M7 and equip it with some capital killing weapons because you will most likely face destroyers, carriers and loads of fighters.

The Deimos is a good solid ship. You'll want some anti-capital firepower in the form of IBLs for some of the missions, however. Other options are the Shrike, Panther, and Tiger (which is what I personally used).

As for PSGs... I personally don't like them. When I brought mine into a Kha'ak sector, I found that the fighters started slowing down to match my speed from beyond the range of the PSGs. As a result, they almost never fired and I had to jump out. FAAs are better weapons in my opinion.

EDIT:
I thought the Deimos could mount IBLs in the main battery, but it can't. I take that back. IMO you shouldn't use the Deimos.

Deimos is fine for the final mission; the IBL's go in the side turrets. ISR's and EBCG's for the main guns.

ISR's are underrated. In my experience, they are the most versatile pirate weapon in the game. Long range; good for killing fighters or striping shields off of capital ships for boarding ops. They will kill capital ships, too, if you are patient (especially in TC where the hulls are thinner than AP).

Falcon Haulers worked great as my support wing for the final mission. Half PGB's and half EBCG's for greater sustained firepower (when In Sector) (use all PBG's OOS).

hi,

at specialist fight rank, an m7 is a bit overkill :)) in the regular escort missions or khaak sector raids, you will mostly fight groups of m5, sometimes some m3, and from 1 to 3 m6.

the vidar is, imo, not the best choice to fight against tiny m5. get yourselft a good m3 equiped with PBG to deal with clouds of fighter, EBC to avoid "friendly fire" when escorting, a turbo booster to evade and some cargo to have enough ecells and missiles (ie: wasp), maybe a TM and some fighter drones for the escrot missions is all you need.

I went through the entire FF plot except the last mission in the Hive with the Vidar - 10 m/aml mounted with the turrets taken up by empc's. I have a few missiles but don't use them often cause I've just recently started to look for some stock (everyone is always out of them darnit)

That last mission though, wow....no chance lol. Even the mission before that was kind've a pain.

I bought a Boreas last night, and have a few ships hopping around gathering up weapons and such to equip it and I'll be going right back in there to hopefully get some revenge.

Think my combat rank is Master Chief.

Edit: Just did it in the Boreas and it was sweet, sweet revenge. It dominated the whole area and I loved every second of it Smile

The last thing the Vidar should be doing is trying to chase down M5's anyway. The Poltergeist can simply be spammed like crazy to eliminate entire clouds of M5s, M4's, and even M3's if you fire enough. Sheer volume can even chew apart a KM6, but it's a lot of missiles.

Personally, I like an M7. The Shrike is great. So are the Tiger and Panther. The Panther drives a bit weird, so make sure you take time to get used to it.

The Cerberus is also very good for most of OFF, due to it's huge number of FAA mountings. That said, at lower fight ranks, they aren't that hard. I jumped in to do a mission, and had my Elephant Fueler jump in after me, landing in the midst of a super cluster. I couldn't do anything, but I didn't have to. The elephant dusted them all and continued to do so until it refueled me and then jumped out.

If I had to recommend an M6, I'd say Heavy Centaur Prototype, or Hyperion Vanguard. Both have heavy shields, good maneuverability, good turret firepower and coverage. The Hyperion has a significant edge in cargo space, but makes a much larger target.

Hint: Add some long range weaponry to the mix or fire manually. The umbrella can hit targets up to two kilometers away, but the 'official' range is 1.44.
