http://www.insurancejournal.com/news/international/2012/05/03/246138.htm

"Wednesday’s ruling is expected to have little impact for Microsoft’s European operations as it is already moving its European software distribution centre to the Netherlands from Germany in anticipation of adverse judgments in the patent trial."

Is it just me or does it seem like the whole 'Ban Microsoft products' thing is going to be fairly detrimental for German citizens? That can't be an insignificant number of jobs lost from Microsoft moving their software distribution centre for Europe out of Germany as a result of this.

This is just the tip of a can of worms, becuase regarding the XBox which is also affected:

quote:
If the final ruling goes against Microsoft and it does not settle, Motorola could theoretically force it to halt imports of the Xbox to the US.
end quote. sourc: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-17825580

now go figure... Google is acquiring Motorola, and Microsoft is taking evasive action, as it tries to wriggle out of these findings... But if Google wanted to it has vast legal and financial resources to cause a real 'ouch' for MS

The irony of the thing is microsoft is a world champion of anti-piracy, whereas it now has been found to be at fault for using unlicensed code/products itself.. and unwilling to pay for the usage... thats how it appears atm anyhow.

It is. As a reaction, Microsoft has already announced Windows 8 won't be able to play DVDs since they don't want to pay for the licenses anymore, you'll need external software.

Sucks if someone abuses their monopoly, right, Microsoft? Rolling Eyes Twisted Evil

So... Is this a case of someone have a patent to "Use technology to do... Stuff'. Or is it based in reality?

This is actually a case of "we spent a decade of R&D to figure out how to make technology do stuff good". It is, on the other hand, also a case of "we let everyone use it and started demanding money as soon as we had 90% market share and there was no easily usable alternative left".
