Alright. I recently bought a new video card, made my computer noisy as hell, but the game runs smoothly at max setting with everything, which is really sweet with other games as well.

Except when there is a large battle in the sector, then even with the lowest of lowest settings, there's barely any FPS change. This is questionable.

I'm using AP 2.0
Radeon HD 6870 (2048 MBytes)
Intel(R) Core(TM) i7 CPU 920 @ 2.67GHz

I'm new to the game myself and have yet to get into anything larger than a scuffle with some Pirates, but I would think the drag from so much acitivity would be straining your processor, not your video card.

That's how I started as well. Went to the war-front and my FPS got kicked in the shinnies. (You can also get some big battles by getting a high level in fighting.)

But for now, is there some useless processes I can get rid of?

This subect has been discussed in a number of past threads. The processor is the bottleneck so that even with a high end vid card big battles will have lag. Also, the game can't take advantage of multi core systems. Keep the # of sectors with satelites to a minimum. And running alot of comlplicated CLS routines will exacerbate the problem also. Basically anything that will tax the processor; if you can do without it, do without it. There are some scripts which will remove civilian ships and rock debris from sectors. I haven't tried them, but they should help things run faster. I've tried shutting down certain processes in my rig, but with little results.

Remove ships remove rocks mods. This worked wonders for me. I don't have a high end rig but it does have quad cores. This game doesn't support more than one which is a bit strange.

The game engine was made for X:BTF. Egosoft have just modified it ever since. That is why it is such a big thing for Rebirth to get a new engine.

The engine was rebuilt for X2 and X3 wasn't it? Or was that just the graphics?

The remove civvies, rocks & ad signs mods helped me quite a bit.

I didn't realise they hadn't changed the engine.

It is a good game also a thirsty beast on the CPU in later stages.

yeah, the issue is definetly the CPU, using a 4 core processor, but the game (since it doesn't have multi-threading..)only uses 25% and then it's just crappy from there...such a shame since i have another 75% untapped...pretty sure 100% of ppl here have some level of discomfort bout it but here comes Rebirth...hopefully it won't be a 4x beast that consumes the equivalent of TC on my 4 cores...

I has a single core 3gh CPU with 2 thread and the graphs shows me it is used equally for X games.

Back on topic. CPU is everything for X games. The only feature which i like in Rebirth so far the re designed engine for the game ;p

I believe one of the developers, maybe even Bernd himself, recently confirmed that the graphical side of things has indeed been updated in the steps up, but the actual core of the engine is still from BTF which is indeed why Rebirth being a new engine is such a big deal.

I cant entirely see his cpu being the problem, hes got an I7 920, im using an amd phenom II 810. His cpu is clock for clock way more efficient than mine and i havent had any issues like this, only time i got fps drop was in aldrin but for obvious reasons. Mind ive got my cpu overclocked to 3.45ghz which might be helping me considering ive never used my cpu at stock clocks for a comparison. If the OP has a decent enough cooler on his cpu he could try upping the core clock a bit and see how that affects the game.

Just out of curiousity gefer8 how much ram you running for your I7?

this means you got 4/6/8 cores that run @ 3.45Ghz, hus cores run @2.67 which is a huge difference, the game will only use one core so while your computer is only using a fraction of its power for the game, since your OC'd CPU is basically bigger then the demand of your current game you don't notice it. i'm curious if your cpu can handle a 300 ship battle...mine dropped harder then the stock market in the 30's...

well im running an I7-2600, and been in quite a few Fleet engagements in my end game with close to no FPS drop... also i did an in sector battle with a Coromorant after dropping 1000x FD Mk2 into the sector, something that would have had my old machine commiting suicide... again very little change, ive had a pretty smooth game since updating my machine.

Mine is 4 core and im well aware of what it being overclocked means. When i said his is more efficient than mine while clocked the same is even though mine is at 3.45 im not sure that mine compares to his while still at only 2.67. And your right i highly doubt mine could handle 300 ships firing let alone 100 ships, its amd after all not exactly performance. Im still new to the combat side of this so im still not entirely sure how big battles can get. Ive been in sectors where enemies would spawn and attack and the majority of ships in the sector attack. To me that is a big battle, whats considered a big battle isnt exactly written somewhere.
