1. Screenshots every week= they have more and more elements that are done.
2. They made a 50% off on all steam X games which is a marketing strategy. They know that when X rebirth comes out, all previous X will be near worthless. So they say: "ok one last boost to sell all what we can before releasing the new one". If the game was far off, they would wait before doing the sale till last minute.

I hightly doubt the sale has anything to do with Egosoft, or any dev/publisher for that matter. I'm sure that valve controls all of that.

WUT? Valve control the pricing of games? I'll not doubt you but that is news to me, and sounds extraordinary.

if the game doesn't come out before E3 2012. We will get a date on E3 2012 (If a game is coming out in 2012 and doesn't have a release date. By E3 it will if going to be 2012 or early 2013). E3 is where most publishers announce their release schedule and developers gather (besides GDC).

That maybe except, if during the course of this year they find the release date is to be 2013, they are not going to wait for E3 to make the announcement. It would make sense for such news to be released as soon as possible to keep the feelings of disappointment as far from the release time as possible!

IMO, we can wait REBIRTH for summer. (June, or Jully)
If my memory is good, i remember that Egosoft doesn't wait a lot of time between realease date annoucement and the end of the developpment.
i think we wont wait for a long for a release date.
The only thing is scaring me is if they will have enought founds to finish it.
Fortunatly, Albion prelude and 50% discount on egosoft products on steam will give them fresh money. but it's still disturbing for me...
Moreover,i think 2013 is not considered.

Where is this "if they have enough money" stuff coming from?
Did I miss something that announced they were worried about finances?
As for release date. Winter 2012 or early 2013 is my guess.

Ah, the doomsayers 
I'm glad (and sad at the same time) they postponed. I think more developers should postpone games so they can come up with some quality games with new innovations, instead of clone games with a few tweaks.
It does worry me, though, seeing all the "late 2013/2014" guesses. Have some faith people, this isn't DN4E! (sorry I had to  )

Well, Egosoft are not used to make half games like albion prelude.
I fear that Egosoft did it in order to have fresh money.
But it's my opinion. nothing else. 
And the 50% discount on steam confirm my feeling.

I point you to X-Tension, which is to X-Beyond the Frontier as Albion Prelude is to Terran Conflict.
In many respects Terran Conflict has the same relationship to X3, but they decided to release it as a stand-alone package. The only game that did not have a follow-on in a similar vein was X2.

They just started posting the "a screenshot a week" (some of the screenshots are just concept art and not even gameplay shots) to show fans they are doing something. If they had actual video footage of the game, combat, space flight, etc (in a somewhat polished state of course) don't you think they would have shown it?
Guild Wars 2 was scheduled to release a year ago, but all you had to do was check their website to find that not even all the classes had been announced, let alone video gameplay, to know that there was no way it was going to be released anytime soon.
If a game has released very little footage let alone in-game screenshots, then they are far from being done.
December 2012 if not 2013 is my guess.

Oh man, 2013 would suck! But if it takes that long to make a better game. I'm all for it. No Rushing Egosoft... I'm super excited to check this out. And I'm dying for a new space game. But I can wait if it means pure EPIC!
