|
|
I'm trying to sell space fuel at the max price of 1252 by eliminating all other fuel producers in the universe, but I'm not having much luck. Here's what I've done so far:
1. I've destroyed:
> 2 fuel fabs in Herron's Nebula
> 2 fuel fabs in Weaver's Tempest
> 3 mixed food production fabs in Aldrin
> 1 mixed food production fab in Aldrin 2
2. Flew to every pirate base, anarchy port, pirate stock exchange, and trading station that sells space fuel and bought up their stock
3. Placed satellites in all of the above sectors so I could watch for any space fuel being moved in the universe
Now in the encyclopedia I am the only one listed as a producer of space fuel. I realize the encyclopedia only shows stations I've personally came across, however if I've missed some producers out there I am hoping some space fuel would show up in the stocks of some of the aforementioned trading stations and pirate bases.
It seems I've been successful in removing all the space fuel from the universe. All of the fuel stocks from bases/stations in the sectors I've been watching have been at 0 for at least 2 game days. So I thought, okay, now that there's NO supply in the universe, the laws of supply/demand mean I can just set my own price, right? Wrong >.> After two days of trying to sell top shelf whiskey at 1252 per bottle to a universe completely devoid of booze I've made only two sales total, selling about 133 units each time.
My first thought was the npc's traders were dumb enough to buy from me at 1252 and then re-sell to a trading station for 728, thereby redirecting all of the universe's booze traffic to this trading station until its supply runs out. But even if that was happening, it still seems I would be making more sales than 1 per day, but I dunno.
I've read somewhere that npcs will choose between buying weed or fuel. If this is the case, do we have information on how they decide? It cannot simply be location and cost; I am selling both weed and fuel from the same sector, and the weed is always sold out at 2,910cr, while the booze is never sold and it's selling at 1,252cr. Perhaps they take mark up into consideration, and it's assumed my prices aren't "competitive" even though there's no one competing with me.
Does anyone have any ideas how I might regularly sell my space fuel at max price? Without a freighter, of course. I'm fairly convinced now it's not possible :/
(I realize space fuel sells extremely well at 727cr (-1 avg). My goal was more fun-oriented than practical.)

Have you tried selling at -1 max? Then traders should pick up your stock to sell to pirate bases and trading stations

Also missed Nyanna's Hideout, but it's still a waste of time.
If you really wanted to to sell it at max price you'd have to do the donkey work yourself and go traipsing across the galaxy looking for Pirate bases to sell to.

I did, I tried selling at 1250 cr for awhile but gave up. Either I didn't leave it long enough, or that was still too high; I'm not sure.

| Yeah, selling at max price means no trader would ever make a profit |
Indeed they would not make a profit trading, but I used to think some pilots bought weed/fuel with the intentions of consuming it, not just selling it off for profit. Oh well

So I did, thanks. I'll be going to destroy that next, just for the hell of it. I did try selling with my own freighters, but that didn't work out much better. My freighters would saturate the "1252 market" quickly and then I was just back to selling at 727 again. I'm sure that must be more profitable, but I'd just rather be freighter-free, since it didn't seem to make a huge difference.
Thanks for the help guys. I guess there's nothing I can really do to salvage my plan. I was beginning to realize this but thought I'd ask here before I give up.

Free traders won't even look at goods priced average or above, no matter how little stock of the stuff there is. Max price never works for your own sellers either, because pirate bases only ever buy at average.

Well I do sell all my Adv Sats to the AI at max-price, and I don't do deliveries.

I'd say untrue on both accounts.
Firstly, I'm sure I've had business especially for food and microchips at higher than average.
Secondly I know for certain that docks in sectors where a ware is illegal will buy that ware for maximum price if they stock it. This includes Pirate Bases. And don't forget that various stations also consume spacefuel.
