Hi I've been playing X series games since X2 The Threat, I got Albion recently but have not played it yet, I've read up on what is in it etc. but is there any more tips you could give me on what to expect? I'm not going to start playing it until I finish semester in college because I know when I start playing a new X game I end up two months in my underpants in front of the computer doing nothing else but playing it.

Are the 6 plots from X3-TC part of albion prelude?
Is the argon patriot the only way to get the plot?
What about getting Vidar and stuff like you could in the TC plot?
If you start as terran are TC terran plots available?
How long is the AP argon plot?

It is best to start by reading this and then ask the questions that are left after that.

Answers in short:

It is a new game set after TC and there are no TC plots although you can gain the PHQ, Hub and UFJD through new AP sub-plots after doing the AP main plot.

The only starts that do not have the X3AP plots available are the Terran and Custom starts.

There are the old TC ships and more but many have 'changed' somewhat.

No plot (or PHQ etc) available from the Terran start as said above.

The original AP plot is quite short but then other sub-plots to gain the PHQ etc kick in. There might even be more to come in future too. The X3AP sandbox game is an enhancement over TC play and there is an AP signed Bonus Pack.

I read that thread but there were a few things I was confused about.

How many sub-plots are there? The Hub is the Xenon hub? (it's been a while since I played) what is the UFJD?

If I go through the plot, will terrans hate me and it will be very hard to get back on their good side?

HUB = Xenon HUB
UFJD = unfocused Jumpdrive
AS for the terrans... you could max your reputation with them (and with ATF) and then after you do the plot.

As I recall the xenon hub has linking gates and you have to collect 20 trillion microchips and other stuff to get it to work right? do you have to do something similar for it in AP?

I've vague recollections of UFJD, what exactly does it do again? does it need fuel?

It seems to me that you need to familiarise yourself with X3TC again before worrying too much about how much X3AP has in common or differs! As I said above there are no straight TC plots in AP but you can get some things seen before in TC through new AP sub-plots.

UFJD takes you to a randomly-generated one-time-use sector that may contain useful things (or sometimes just to another random game sector) and needs 5 e-cells each way.

You have to do a little bit of delivery, but nothing near as demanding as in TC.

Hint...

Yeah as I said it's been over a year or more since I played TC (when I did play it, it really sucked me in was playing it for months like all other X-series games) I just wanted to get some info about AP before starting up again.

So the UFJD can take you to sectors not on the map, sectors you cannot return to? I don't remember that from TC. In AP has there been any improvement with TL's like the Orca? I remember being able to use a transporter when near stations to trade with them but I think that was a mod.

That was a remote station trading mod. In vanilla (apart from some plot missions) you have to have a ship docked to trade with a station.

If you don't remember the UFJD then you didn't complete anywhere near all the plots available in TC.

Yeah I guess not, now that I think about it, I think I got bogged down with the hub plot where you had to spend months gathering ore and microchips, and my complexes became so big the game started to stutter and performance fell through the floor.

Thanks for the help.

Another quick question, I remember in TC there was a mod that made your turrets awesome. Are turrets in AP any good or are they like the vanilla TC turrets? (I mean turrets on the ships)

If not, is that mod available for AP ? I forget its name, think it was MARS or something.

Yes that was MARS, yes it can work with X3AP - see here, and yes that sort of question and whether you even need MARS when you haven't tried the vanilla game all belongs in S&M in the relevant thread and not in the X-Universe forum.

I have another question or two.

Where does one get the repair laser? I can't find them anywhere.

I've not lost a single UT so far, they always escape, is this normal? in TC my UT's used to drop like flies. In AP they keep going into Omicron Lyrae and getting badly damaged, don't suppose there's a way to tell them not to go there?

How does one mine Nvidium? I've got unfocused jump drive and Guppy and Orca, I know there's a Nvidium roid in Unknown sector beyond Getsu Fune but I'm not sure how to go about mining it.

The unfocused jump drive is not in my installed list of ship equipment, does it change to whatever ship I'm in? my ships cannot jump to me when I am in uncharted space, do I need to be there in person in a Guppy to mine Nvidium in uncharted sectors?

MARS fire control is on every ship I think, how do I change it so it's only on my ships? it also goes mental and starts attacking people and launching drones everywhere when it's set to defence.
