Inspired by another thread, given that humans continue to evolve, subject
to environmental pressures and stuff, what powers do you think humans
will develop next?

Speciation caused by long term moves to other environments, e.g. Mars at first.

I'm hoping that, by evolving with greater intelligence, we will be smart enough to be moral/resist temptations. We will be smart enough to immunise ourselves against AIDs and such. And have medicines to prolong our life.

I answered "Other." The reason being, we will eventually "evolve" beyond Evolution's reaches. We're already in command of our own Evolution, should we decide to use that ability. And,we will shortly be able to evolve into non-biological life-forms. Though, I do not know if that is a good thing...

Evolution and human beings is a "non-issue." But, it may be an issue in regards to parasites and disease that could effect us. But, for us, we will have outgrown it, to a large extent, in the very near future. That doesn't mean it won't effect us, but natural, biological, evolution will not be a significant factor for human beings in a few hundred years.

I'd love to have a cyborg body!
As long as it was completely impossible to be hacked into and controlled by others..
Hydraulic arms, no illnesses, no flimsy body.

If not Zombies I would like to see our inhibitions disapear, along side with a healthy live and let live in our very instincts.

Agreed with being immune to such things, disagreee with moral/resist temptations. That would be de-evolution.

It would?
Knowing that killing someone is wrong is de-evolution?
Knowing that drowning babies is wrong is de-evolution?
Need more? Rolling Eyes

Maybe you got the wrong end of the stick but in my mind a world where people don't do wrong is a pretty damn evolved world.

There is your mistake, presuming that right and wrong and morality have anything to do with one another. With morality, only those that follow it are subject to not having wrong fone to them, everyone else is fair game.

Morality and opinion have a nasty habit of being the same thing. remember things like sexuality is plagued with morale diversity, as is religion. Morality will never allow us peace.

Replace morality with live and let live, and you exclude nobody.

Why does anyone want to be a cyborg or a zombie?

I'd regard that as serious devolution.

I wouldn't mind enhanced power, looks, vision etc like Steve Austin
(You young 'uns can ask Grandad about that) but most replacement limbs
and stuff are considerably less efficient, or less powerful than the originals
unless you want to end up like this

We'll have to know in what direction our environment is going, we'll go in the direction required for survival.

Okay, let's all get a handle on this.

There is no "de-evolution". Evolution moves in the direction that provides most advantage for environmental pressures NOW, not in the future.

Adaptations which give a species an advantage are preserved. Those which don't may well atrophy, even if they COULD provide an advantage later.

For what it's worth, currently the main selection pressure on humankind is the task of getting a mate - therefore I predict that we're evolving towards extremely attractive people. However, since intellect is a trait which is not directly useful in respect of getting a mate, expect it to atrophy. . . .
