39. Scavenging
Or at least that's what I would be able to do with another ship that has a big cargo hold! So I decide to buy myself another TS. This time for scooping up all the lovely loot that I seem to keep missing for one reason or another. lol 1st however is the inspection of my bailed Harrier. Leaving Bofu Chemical Lab M Beta, I head for my Wheat complex. I dock the "Lazy Geordie" and shut her down for now. Exiting my ship and stepping into the docking area of the complex's hub, I walk over to the docking slot assigned to the Harrier. Just in time to see it clamped noisily into place.
Climbing into the tiny cockpit, I am reminded of the escapades I had in "Inferno" and also how much more vulnerable I feel, compared to flying the Vulcan.
Checking the ships hold again, I instruct the automated lifting droids to transfer the 5 APAC's to the hold of the "Lazy Geordie". Leaving only the Docking Computer on board. Checking over the rest of the Harrier via the computer, I see I took it down to 60% hull, before it's previous owner
decided he was better of leaving it to me! hehee. Deciding the ship is of little use to me right now, I secure her systems and return to my Vulcan.
I power the "Lazy Geordie" back up, and depart the complex. Once enough distance has been established, I initiate a jump to Family Pride. Hopefully, the bug eyed freaks will go easy on me if I spend some credits!
Docking at the local Shipyard, I decide to be brave and liase with the sales team face to face. Perhaps it will gain me a little respect. However, all I seem to get whilst making my way from the docking bay to the offices, is some very nasty looks! I hastily enter the office and I'm immediatly set upon by an over enthusiastic salesman!
"Split say, welcome friend. Split glad to see other races finally realising Split have superior ships!"
"Erm...Yeah, my thoughts exactly"
"Split say, you look like type who wants to buy big ship?" He says, with a horrid looking toothy smile.
Obviously he's looking for a big sale out of me!
"Kind of. I want to purchase one of your TS class vessels."
I see his happy, smiley expression quickly change to one of dissapointment.
"Split sure Split can help you buy big carrier ship, friend." He keeps trying the sales patter.
I chuckle back to him. "Not likely, my Split friend. I don't have enough standing with your race to buy one of your carriers. As much as I would like to."
I hand over my ID pad and watch him scurry over to one of the terminals dotted around the office. He returns a few moments later and hands the pad back.
"Please follow Split"
I follow him to a small darkened corner. On the wall next to a single terminal, is a sign with 'Trading Ships' on it. The Split don't care much for trading, I guess.
The salesman (or sales-Split if you like! lol) activates the terminal then turns to me.
"This best Split can offer." He says ushering me towards the screen.
I quickly scan through the entries and find what I'm looking for.
"I'll take 1 standard Caiman, 'L' variety for now thanks." I point to the entry on the screen.
The standard Caiman is perfect for scavenging dropped loot. As although lightly shielded for a TS, it's one of the fastest. This means it has a better chance of reaching it's target before anyone else.
I hand over my credit chip and watch him scurry off again. A wee while later, he returns, hands me my chip back and shakes my hand.
"Split say, many thanks for business. Ship in docking bay for depature." and
with that he turns away and heads towards his collegues.
Obviously to gloat he got a sale no doubt!
I make my way back towards the docking area once again, as quick as I can, but whilst trying not to draw attention to myself. I climb back into the "Lazy Geordie" and fire up the engines. I decide to leave the Caiman at the Split Shipyard just now. Whilst I gather a few extra items I need for it.
Namely a Jump Drive!
Ive left most of my stats the same as the previous chapter and hav'nt posted any pics, as I did'nt really 'play' this one out.
