just a random idea for rebirth but i think it would be cool if there were some huge asteroids you could fly through

a bit like the asteroids in Darkstar One or kinda like we had to do with the recon drone in reunion.... would be smart if we could have a battle and run through one like Obi Wan did in Star Wars

plus you could put some "dead enders" in meaning you would perhaps have to use a recon drone to scout it out make sure your ship can get in and TURN in order to get out....

means we could in theory use these as hiding places to use as ambush places, have a small wing of fighters (or drones) hiding inside an asteroid ready to jump out and attack passing enemy ships Twisted Evil

we had those in previous X games.

theres even a mod out that (re)adds them to TC and AP.

I hope not...the stuff that took place inside stations and asteroids were the most annoying parts of X3 I remember.

Hiding from pursuers and reparing strike from inside a roid in X2 was fabulous, I regretted them in X3.

First, it's through, not threw. Threw is the past tense of throw.

Second, I sometimes hid behind asteroids or inside stations to get away from enemy fire. Asteroids with 'holes' for the player to abuse would indeed be cool, but unless the AI can actually do something about it, it would just be a stinking abuse. In X3TC the only thing the AI could do about an asteroid was to fly a mile away from it in a random direction and hope that it solved the problem and the rock isn't on its way anymore.

*lol* sad, very sad, but true..

but since they cannot stop stressing that x:r is a totally new game, one can hope that the AI has improven to a point where they can even deal with those mean asteroids..

As for gameplay, i'd apreciate this! i consider asteroids through which you can fly as very difficult in any way (programming this on one hand, actually doing that maneuver ingame on the other hand), but at least have some dense asteroid fields through which you can escape being in a corvette while a destroyer has troubles following you..
(also happened in starwars: the millenium falcon tried to shake off the stardestroyers like that.)

since you can't upgrade to a larger ship (which i still find a questionable "solution"), at least let us take advantages like this..

I can't find the link to it, but I have seen a concept art image of what looked like tunnels and crude map of what is likely the inside of an asteroid

im not suggesting it as a move to being more Darkstar One, i just think it could add to the gameplay, but yes it would be nice if the AI could use similar tactics.

but id prefer it if there was risk in using them, narrowing points, tight bends, things that if you travel too fast you could crash and burn. so they wont be a given "exploit"

In X2, the NPC's could do something about it. They could, and often did, blast the asteroid from around you, if they had big enough guns, or a Hornet missile.

I swear everyone elses AI must be dumber than mine, in TC even when i hit in the middle of deep asteroid fields, enemy ships (Normally Q's) would just pursue and use their Capital weapons to blast asteroids out of the way, the ammount of times i've died because i've been hiding behind a roid only for it to splinter into a million pieces.

Not sure if anyone is interested, but the Holy Asteroids mod does work with X3AP....use the zip version and I installed it as a fake patch into the "/x3tc/addons/" folder.

(noticed the subject, could help poking my nose in) Very Happy
