X3 crashes shortly after starting to play

Hi all. I've been trying to get X3:Reunion working on my 64-bit Windows 7 pc and I haven't been able to get it to work for more than 5 to 10 minutes. It doesn't seem to crash under anything specific it just does (usually while I'm flying around). It's very pretty and works great until it crashes and windows says that X3 has stopped working then I have to ctrl-alt-del to make the mouse appear so I can push the "close program button."

The version is 2.5 and I have no mods or scripts or anything like that. Not really sure what else to do. The game is rather hard when it crashes every few minutes. :/

I think the 'AMD A8-3850' is part of the 'Fusion' range, and there have been a number of reports with these chips.

Al I can suggest is giving these a whirl:

- Fusion Utility for Desktops
- AMD Driver Autodetect

Between them, they may find something.

I tested the amd driver autodetect and it said that the driver was up to date.

What am I supposed to do with the fusion utility? I tried putting it on gaming and then testing the game, but it still crashed in full screen. I'll see if I can make it crash in windowed mode too.

Is anything recorded in the 'Event Viewer', after these crashes?

Actually I updated the driver just yesterday to 11.12 to try to fix this, but it didn't work either.

What am I looking for in the event viewer? I didn't even know it existed so I'm not sure how to use it.

Should I really try the preview driver? Can't it break my system?

Hi,

Unfortunately that error is an interger overflow error which we have seen many times in the past.

It occurs with many programs and causes a lot of problems as it can have a multitude of causes.

You can try stopping as many process as possible including anti-virus, fireall etc as you may be lucky and find that helps.

Unfortunately, one thing that I tried was shutting off my anti-virus/firewall, but that didn't work either. It appears that I'm stuck until somebody fixes something (windows, x3, or otherwise).

A number of similar problems reported with your CPU type required a BIOS update to solve them. Please check with your motherboard manufacturer or system builder to see if there is one available for your system.
