Uh-ho... DiD screwup? Need advice!

So I'm playing my first Dead-is-Dead game, trying for the Die-Hard steam achievement (9 plots finished in DiD). And I am really worried that I screwed up.

The plot I am working on now is A New Home. I got a TM (Zephyrus) and load it with M3s (Solanos), and did the unfocused jump into Danna's Chance. I approach the station, switch to a fighter, and start taking care of business.

My TM is just sitting there, no orders, pretty close to the Trade Station, and it took a few shots. And whaddya know, it decides to start moving ON IT'S OWN. And I watch in horror as it accelerates... straight towards the Trade Station!

I quickly consider transporting over and slamming on the breaks, but at this point it is too close, and my viewing angle is bad. Also, because this is a DiD game, there is no way in hell I'm going to risk that. Maybe it will miss the station?

Not a chance. I watch in horror, as my TM full of docked fighters slams into the side of the trade station and explodes.


Now, I was expecting a game over, just from loosing the TM, or from "attacking" the station with my kamakazi mind-of-its-own ship. Neither happened though. I got a plot message saying "wtf, you need a TM you idiot, go and get another one!"

So I do. I put together another Zephyrus and this time grab a Cutlass (the Solanos didn't have quite the firepower I was hoping for), and go back to the gate and start another round of Unfocused Jumps.

Except... I never appear in Danna's Chance. I check my mission log, and the mission for A New Home is gone! And it hasn't reappeared in at least two game hours, just jumping around the 2-6 system range that I'm supposed to be at, hanging around in SETA, trying to re-trigger the mission. I NEED THIS MISSION! Am I screwed? Please, don't let it end like this!!!

I haven't done that plot in a very long time, in that I can't remember the sequence of events. But it's likely that the sector you need to go to is on your Universal Map, now.

As for leaving ships in space, I suggest putting them to idle or docking them to stations in the future.

This is the message that is in my log, that popped up when my TM got destroyed:

"Darn pilot! You just lost the ship for transporting people from the Trading Station! Jump out and get a new one ASAP!"

So, what does that mean exactly? I think it means that I should be able to actually jump out, get a new TM, and try it again.

Except, so far, I still cannot access this mission. There is no mission in my log. I haven't gotten any missions while flying around that area of space. The M5 I sent through the gate blew up instantly. I have tried at least 50 unfocused jumps (not an exaggeration). I even sat around on SETA a while, and flew missions all across the universe hoping this would resolve itself. But so far, no dice.

It has been over 3 game hours since the incident. Does anyone know if or how to resolve this problem?? Again, this is a DiD game, there is no reverting to an older save!

You're not trying to get to Danna's Chance - you want to start in Danna's Chance. You're trying to get to Freedom's Reach, but if you jump directly in you'll insta-die.

You have to use your Unfocused Jump Drive in Danna's Chance. Attempting it from any other sector won't work.

Also, I would HIGHLY recommend using a Zephyrus for this mission, as it has front mounted, player controlled guns. Just don't undock into one of your fighters - just stay in the Zephyrus. It's probably the best TM anyway, but it's definitely the best for this mission. 600mj of shielding, 2 front mounted guns, and 140 max speed. You have to have a fighter on it for the mission to work, but you don't need to actually use the fighter. Just stay in the Zeph.

The Zeph can be bought in Legend's Home from OTAS - makers of most of the best ships Razz


Be sure it has a cargo life support system and a good deal of empty space.

Oops - mis-spoke a bit there. I meant, I was in Danna's Chance, trying to get to Freedom's Reach. :-s Still a no go, and I've almost completed the Treasure Hunt Campaign while waiting and hoping.

I remember being able to visit that sector with #deca in some uber-ships (i.e. Springblossom). The trick was to turn away from #deca immediately after entering the sector and RLSG that way. Not sure whether it would be possible with a TM though and I probably won't even try it in a DID game. I remember dying a couple of times before mastering that technique. Well, as UFJD randomly places you in various sectors, you *might* be able to get there second time after some serious thousands of jumps. I would think your game will end because of an CTD earlier than that...
Actually, if you overtune one of 600MJ TMs to tripple-springblossom speed/rudder, you might have a chance, LOL.

12 game hours have gone by, no luck at all. :-s

This is a bug, right? The mission message told me to leave the sector and try again, but it hasn't given me any opportunity to actually try again...

Do you think Egosoft will ever fix this? Because after playing this DiD for five and a half days in-game (and less than half that time was in SETA), I reallllly do not want to have to start over. :-s Especially since I just finished building the energy complex for the hub quest! (over 100 stations in Ore Belt, and not done yet) (tractoring all those silicon mines was a serious pain)

I have little hope left... does anyone know a way around this problem? (preferably one that doesn't involve kurush's suggestion to just fly through the gate :-p)

I know how it is to have to start over a DiD game after you've made it far...

If you're UFJD'ing in Danna's Chance from a TM, then I have no idea what to tell you. You should do it in less than 6 jumps. Is there a fighter on the TM? There needs to be at least one fighter docked on the TM.

So..

You're in Danna's chance
You have a TM with a fighter docked

Yes?


As far as would they fix it - I highly doubt we'll see any more fixes for TC. Albion's coming out, and Rebirth after that. I imagine TC's pretty much wrapped up and done. I could be wrong.

Yeah, in Danna's Chance, with a TM, and a docked M3, sitting at the south gate and repeatedly doing Unfocused Jumps, and not getting into Freedom's Reach.

Very lame, I was trying to finish all the Steam achievements before Albion Prelude came out. ><

Right there with you, though it gets easier as you do it over again, and you learn little tricks to make it go faster/smoother.

It does suck. Best I can say is to try and survive going through the gate. Failing that, use a Zephyrus next time and don't undock from it.

My suggestion was not *just* fly through the gate, but to overtune your TM to some four digit speed and then fly through the gate. This might give you a chance. Those M3 decas come with M/AM launchers and their bullets have limited speed. If your speed is higher, they won't touch you and the only problem would be the defense area around the big #deca. As far as I remember, it does not insta-kill you but eats your shield rather quickly. You might be OK if you run away from it fast enough. M3 decas will stop spawning around you when you are far away from the gate. This is something I was able to do in a springblossom a couple of times.
BTW, is it possible to temporarily break DID by getting a local copy of that save, try some things and then restart DID game?

Hmmmm... how do you overtune ships in X3TC? I know it was pretty easy in Reunion, but I haven't heard anything like that for TC. :-s
