I would like to play REBIRTH but am unwilling to have Steams Spy/Malware on my family computer!
However there has been talk of a console version; if this was to occur I would be interested in buying a console to play future X games, with or without Steam!
So my question is what is the likelyhood of this happening and when?
I am running a poll on the demand for this!

Bin playing X too long when Egosoft refuses to sell you their latest game?

Bernd said Rebirth wouldn't be on consoles awhile ago.

Egosoft has expressed an interest in developing for consoles, but nothing has come of it yet.

As for the poll, I'm not really sure. I won't know until I actually see what kind of game Rebirth is.

Based on my impression of the game thus far combined with my experience with previous X titles: Probably not.

Come come KloHunt3r,
Use your imagination, these forums are about our dreams and desires for X, as well as the here and now!
I am sure Bernd could be persuaded if there was money/demand in it, after all they have spent a fortune developing a game that will fit on a console?

Can you give us a third poll option please? Something along the lines of "Abstain - poll is slightly biased" should do it.

Either that or edit your poll options back to a simple yes/no.

And for the record, no, I wouldn't play it on a console.

Third option please. Something about paranoia, delusions, and living scared in basements should do. Thanks!

Tycow,
Sorry the poll is not biased, although the wording is, there is a simple choice with an option for both sides. Extra options would muddy the waters but you could run a different poll with more options!

Then I would suggest changing it to a simple yes/no poll.

Whilst I see that behind the biased wording there is a simple choice, by selecting the "NO" option it implies I agree with your wording/thinking of the "YES" option. Smile

EDIT: Which I don't... by the way.

This poll is just a insult. In my mother tongue, I could say "il nous prend pour des cons".

You give the choice between STEAM and CONSOLE, as if we could not live on a PC without Steam.

A previous poll showed that a strong population of forum readers refuses Steam, but that does not make them console players.

My vote is clear : no steam, no console. Thus I cannot vote.

If you want just to know how many people would accept to by a console version of the game, just ask it with a "yes/no" answer.

I used to be anti-steam. But then along came cirtain warhammer games that required it be installed so I had no choice but to install it. Resented it a grate deal at the time. Yet another peace of software I didnt need using my system resorces.

But you know what? I have a huge collection of games. I use 500 sleeve DJ cases to contain all my old ones, and used to visit cirtain websites to obtain no-cd patches for the games in my collection so I wouldnt have to keep reindexing them.

I have since decided steam isnt so bad. It destributes a lot of smaller independantly developed titles you cant obtain elsewhere. It provides an in game overlay that I find preferable to X-fire or GFW. And I have obtained a lot of decent games at cheeper prices then I would find elsewhere thanks to their regular specual offers.

Contrary to what you read you dont have to have it running in the background all the time, its perfectly posible to tell it not to boot at startup, and to close it when you dont want to play one of its games. You also dont need to have an internet connection to play. Just tell it to start in ofline mode by default and you can still play all your games.

Unlike cirtain other copy protection methods it dosnt constantly access your hard disk or optical drive while you play. In fact it realy only noticably impacts performance when you wait for it to start up before you can start any games. So it did ultimatly convince me to let it boot at startup.

Unlike other digital retailers it lets you keep downloading your games as many times as you want forever, and its installer is less hastle then many I have encounterd. Its also a lot less common then people think for steam to interfear with 3rd party mods. In fact I can only think of one time its interfeard with my ability to apply one.

Steam successfully converted me. Now what I hate is when publishes make games exclusive to the steam clones, origin, impulse and GFW. I may have come round to keeping one extra program I dont need runing in the background but I am damed if I am going to have four.

Now im not saying it wouldnt be better to live in a world without 3rd party aplications running on our computers. But the truth is we have had that since long before steam, wether its secure rom, targis or what ever else there is always something.

Given the choice I prefer steam. Which isnt to say you should, mearly that you should accept that others do.

This is just going to turn into yet another Steam debate, a subject that we have a perfectly good thread for. If you want to make a poll about a console version then make a poll about a console version; don't bring Steam into it.
