Apologies if this topic is verboten at this juncture, but I am planning to layout about $1000~$1300 for gfx cards for BF3, and, well, would like to make the best pick for X:Re to run it at 5760x1080 across three screens.

So, GTX 580 SLIs or 6990s? Will Physx be used in Rebirth?

Thanks.

It isn't verboten, but it isn't answerable either--optimisation is one of the last things to be done during a game's development, so I doubt even Egosoft themselves are clear on what you'll need to run the game yet.

Why not go for the ASUS Mars II? It's the most powerful GPU on the planet! Unfortunately it's way over your budget and on top of that a limited edition (only 1000 made) so it may be hard to get one... Wink

It's pretty dang close, but Newegg is the only vendor and it's being bundled for $4k.

With a hand maded multithreading model and DX9 i whould start forget to even think about trying to use SLI or CF with X:R.

And forget about Physx too, if there is any kind of gpu physics it will be a hand made engine with OpenCL support.

The fact that they are not pushing beyond DX9 for the initial release means that any modern card will be more than enough to handle this game.

From personal experience buying 3 lower tier cards will give you the horse power needed for the higher resolutions without killing your wallet. Two 580's had trouble running my 3 30" inch monitors at 2560x1600 on each of them. Three 560's (for the same price) makes then run smooth, especially for stretch desktop.

Stay away from AMD. I bought them first because they were cheaper and took them back. There are a few bugs and AMD refuses to acknowledge they exist, like the replicating mouse bug. Nvidia has given me no grief.

3rd, I wish I had spent the extra money to get the monitors with no borders. The 1/2" bevels become 1" side by side. My buddy got the 0.1" border monitors and it looks really awesome.

Just a word from experience.

I forgot to mention HEAT. AMD is the king to running cool cards. Nvidia is always had problems since the 8000 series cards. 560's run cooler than most but it will glitch out under long term heavy load (they just sit to close together on most boards.).

Get a full tower with great air cooling for a cheap solution though you will never have to pay utilities for heating that room. The much better solution is to go ahead and build a water cooled system. Not only will it keep you cooler, but it will extend the life of your cards too.

wow, tri-monitors on an x-game would be so orgasmic... a full view and almost peripheral view out of the cockpit... just add surround sound and it'll be an amazing experience. (sorry for sound so gay/geeky, but you secretly agree with everything I just said...)

as per the other thread; this is nice, but having auxiliary monitors showing more information / UI would be awesome-er imo Wink

Yer, it would be great if the interface was more like EVE in the way it can be positioned anywhere, resized and left open while you fly. I have screenshots of that too but I won't post them.

Edit: @Mod, is it possible to merge threads, this thread and this thread are pretty much the same.
