Okay so i just changed most of the soundtracks in my game to something else and I thought that I'd share it with all of you.
This mod aims to change most of the games soundtracks. If you have played the X series since BTFT like me the soundtracks get a bit repetetive. So I put together a few new songs and here you have it. Enjoy.
Manual Install
Spk
Sorry for the poor choice in upload site. I can't use mediafire due to it's 200mb limit. If you know any good sites that can take 300mb then please leave a suggestion.
v.2.1
Spk Verision and new songs. Thanks to DrBullwinkle for help with spk and fixing 2 songs.
Install
You will need to navigate to your X3 TC folder then enter Soundtracks
I suggest you make a backup or move theese files into a folder of your choice. I myself made a folder called Original Music and just left it in the soundtracks folder. I unfortunately can't share the original music due to copyright.

After that you want to unzip the file you downloaded and then drag the files into you Soundtracks folder. Accept to overwrite or if you draged the originals in another folder then you won't get that message.
That's it when you have done this you should have the new soundtracks in your game.
If you encounter any sectors where this have failed and music for some reason isn't playing tell me and I'll try to fix it.
I haven't replaced all of the Soundtracks but I might replace the rest in the future so check back here for updates.
!! Read this !!
Note 1 The songs in the list that have the (Removed) tag have ben deleted from the mod for various reasons. If you want a diffrent song other than vanilla you can look through the files and find one you want, copy it then rename to the one you want it at.
This mod should work for AP however I'm not 100% sure.

I like them... deffinately more exciting than the vanilla ones. Love the Sci-Fi techno feel!

I had several crashes upon entering a sector with these tracks, it was Zyarths Dominion and Cloudbase North West I think but I use XRM so I dunno if it was conflicting.

That's weird.. I haven't had any crashes related to this.. However... There was one soundtrack that does not work.. I'm not sure but it could be in thoose sectors.. Have you replaced 000038 with the original sountrack?

Thank you for taking the time to assemble and post these great tunes, Peanutcat.
Fresh tunes are always nice. Even the fine music that comes with X3 can become stale after thousands of times hearing it.
One possible bug report: I had a problem with 000039. My game would freeze, with repeating sound, when entering Sacred Relic. I finally traced it to the 000039 file. Replacing with the vanilla file solved the problem.
Just thought I would pass that along in case anyone else has trouble.

my force powers are slightly tingling in the memory department
iirc i fixed a vanilla mp3 or wave file many many moons ago that was causing lockups that had a "blip/peak or gap" when opened in a proper sound editor (think about the waveform showing as a 9.5 on the Richter scale where the peak was)
have a look at the files in an editor for gaps and interference that are not part of the track

Great catch, LV!
I did the following with 000038 and 000039, which successfully fixed them:
1) Download the free Audacity sound editor.
2) Load 000039
3) View / Show Clipping (so that I quickly see problems)
4) Effect / Amplify: -10db
5) Effect / Clip Fix
6) Effect / Amplify: (Choose a value slightly smaller than suggested.)
7) File / Export as .mp3. Click Options and set to 48khz.
8 ) If this is your first time exporting to .mp3, Audacity will ask for the lame codec. There is a button with instructions that lead you to a free installer which is already set up for Audacity. Do not change the default installation folder for "Lame for Audacity".
9) To test, I looked up the clip on the X3TC Music Library Page. I saw that 000039 plays in Sacred Relic (which is where I experienced the lockup).
10) Reloaded saved game and enter Sacred Relic -- success!
11) Repeat for 000038 in Treasure Chest, also with success.
That was all I had to do... it is easier to do than it is to write.
Thanks for the tip!

Great job guys. Dr B how about just uploading the two fixed files? Even easier than writing about them

Verision 2 is up. It contains alot of new songs, which ones you'll have to find out on your own. Some soundtracks have ben removed due to various reasons.
And is there anyone here that knows how I would be able to make this an spk? I've experimented a bit with it but haven't ben able to figure it out.

In the Package Creator, Click "New".
From the dropdown, select "From Archive".
The archive should be in .zip (deflate) format -- not .7z. |
That far I know how to do. It's the thing that I have to get it to install itself in the correct category. And if you want to you can upload the fixed 00038 and 00039

Clicking on the download link redirects me to the main mediafire website and not to a specific "download the mod"-site.
