[MOD]No Fog 2.5comp Fake Patch [V1.0 22/03/2010]

Post by Argonaught. » Mon, 22. Mar 10, 07:19

This mod removes the fog from all sectors.

It does not alter view distance or any other background items...just the fog.

To Use this mod:

Rename the No.Fog 2.5comp.cat/dat to the next highest number in your main X3TC directory.
If your last numbered cat/dat is 09.cat/09.dat then this mod would be 10.cat/10.dat and so on.

To remove just delete the cat/dat from you X3TC folder.

Zip file contains:
No.Fog 2.5comp.cat/dat and a readme text file.

NOTE:
This Mod is free to be reused in your scripts/mods as long as you say thankyou in your topic.

Yay to me i made a tiny mod :)

Cool :) Fog is ugly! Sometimes you can even see the straight lines of the edge of each cloud image..

I tried a similar one to this and it caused certain sectors to be unplayable. Cardinals Domain being one.

I mean 1 frame every 3 seconds slow.

Nicely done. :)

I'm curious, if you're willing to indulge me - how does one alter the draw distance? I imagine it's a variable of each background, but where does one find it to alter it?

It is indeed - in Tbackgrounds, each background has Fadeout start and a Fadeout stop variable, in meters :)

If you open TBackgrounds in Doubleshadows X3 Editor 2 it will list all the area that can be changed.

Remove Dust clouds

Post by Munchkin9 » Sat, 5. Jun 10, 02:28

I know I have seen this somewhere, but a search didn't bring back anything so I am reduced to asking:

Does anyone know of a mod that removes, dust effects in sectors such as Ore Belt. I know it is supposed to look good but what ends up happening is that all objects I look at up close look like they are see-through it looks terrible. Plus I think it causes a good amount of lag.

So ya, anyone know of this?

No Fog by Argonaught

Not sure if it's 2.6/2.7 compatible though... don't know if the files were changed in those updates. Best bet is to ask in the thread.

EDIT: Just checked through the Vanilla game files (thank RNG for having a Vanilla Steam installation) and TBackgrounds has never been changed in a patch, so it'll still work fine as long as you don't have any mods which change it.

As someone said why make a beautiful engine for this game then cover it in fog. Like making a gourmet dish then chucking baked beans over it!

Great fake patch!

At least in X2 the fog was dangerous....

Something I posted to Mannschaft's request here:
/me wrote:Nebel entfernen by Marodeur. The topic itself is in German, but as the Mod doesn't use any text files, you can use it with any language version of the game.
The mod offers several cat/dat pairs. All remove the fog, but they have different draw distances. The cat/dat pairs are named accordingly: "Originalsichtweiten" will just remove the fog, all other are named with the value they set the draw distance in every sector to (e.g. 15km.cat/dat) or to the minimum draw distance, while all other sectors with a higher distance will keep their values (15km_minimum.cat/dat).
