Updated to version 1.03:

GNS v1.03

Change log:

- added a small double check for add.news-script. (Fixes a rare bug that could show up in earlier versions of the GNS. In the earlier versions, when including an article twice (with the same id) it was included in the news list twice, without a double check. Now, the second inclusion doesn't happen any more. This was only relevant for the MD-side, as the SE-side uses a command which already had this check)

- added new functionality: Some variables inside articles (not the titles!) which are added to the GNS will become replaced automatically by other content. For instance the variable $PLAYERNAME$ will be replaced by the name of the player. There are plenty of variables, all documented in the manual.

This function makes it easy to generate static articles, which change from one showing to the next.

Additionally we want to mention that one of our MD-scripters, Jens Ka, has written a MD-lib for use with the GNS. This can be downloaded here. By using this lib, the inclusion of new articles for missions is easier than by run_script.

This is great news (get it? news... Rolling Eyes )

I have grand plans for X3TC. In fact they are so grand they will never come to fruitfulness, but hopefully I will learn something along the way at least.

Cheers!

link removed

first time I've done such a thing... so don't complain if it says 1.02 version... I guess this will do until someone more professional ups a new SPK pack to the OP

Edit: removed the link... I screwed up Embarassed guess we'll wait until someone more professional does a SPK pack Rolling Eyes

Here is an SPK for the 1.03 version of the GNS.

I have just this second banged this together, so it is untested. Also the manual is not included as I couldn't see a way of adding a .pdf.

GNS 1.03 spk

When I try to open the GNS, I only hear a buzz sound and nothing more happens. I'm running X3 3.0.

Did it work first, or existed this issue directly after install?

Sorry, I can't help you with this issue.
Try using the uninstall-script from the ScriptEditor, save and reload - if this doesn't fix the problem, it's definatly on your side, as we are using the GNS in XTC and it was used and tested over and over and never an issue like this occured.

HI all...

This is from the MBR mod page : Integration with XTC team's Galactic News System (optional, enabled by default).

Open the Galactic News System to see the latest news on all conflicts across the galaxy. The timeout period for articles can be set in the config menu (default is 15 mins - set to 0 or less to disable). All news is timestamped, so you know how fresh the info is.

this is awesome for seeing where the action is at, and hard to live without, however since i uninstalled MBR to use RRF the conflicts news seems to of stalled and nothing new is showing up... the old reports are there and the normal news articles show up and renew just fine, what i wanted to know is that is the conflicts news only active when using MBR ??? or can/should/is there a way to get it to work without having MBR installed ?????

thanks for your time.

Kat

Well, I can't say anything about MBR - but I would assume, that MBR includes those articles and that they are no standalones... meaning, no MBR no dynamic articles... but better ask in the MBR-thread for that.

ummm yeah... i suppect they are connected to the bases as they are the ones that report the intel on battles across the verse, i wonder if there is a way to port the files/scripts that make it work or to get mbr and rff to work together but turn off all mbr options but the intel reports.

ok i'l do some more digging.

thanks.

Hey,

Should the script folder's contents override the contents of the script folder in the installation directory? If there is anything to be overridden..

I ask this because I put the contents of the script folder of the mod in the script folder in the TC directory, and the "t" folder in the TC directory.

However, I can't find any hotkey options in the controls menu in-game. I can't find any "newspaper" option to assign a hotkey to.

Thanks.

EDIT: http://forum.egosoft.com/viewtopic.php?t=292291

Well, I basically did as that thread directed I guess.

Probably just an installation error - if there is setup.plugin.news in the scripts-folder, there should also be the hotkey in the game available.
