[TC] Treasure Hunt Plot Walkthrough

Post by Spychotic » Sat, 4. Dec 10, 18:20

Treasure Hunt Plot Walkthrough

This walkthrough is mostly spoilered, so that if people get caught on the common sticking-points they can read it without spoiling the story for themselves.

However, it is not expected that the replies will be spoilered, so don't read beyond the first post if you are stuck but don't want to know the plot!

Several mods are known to cause some problems with this plotline. All mods not updated for 2.1 are suspect and even if they have there's still no guarantee that they're compatible. If you have a plotline problem with a modded game, you are requested to go to S&M and ask which mods might be the culprit, and then ask in that mod's forum thread for possible solutions.

This is a relatively short plot, requires very little funds and can be completed in an M6.

This plot activates when you’ve visited 92 Sectors and 10 minutes or more after installing the 2.1 patch. The next time you fly into an Argon or Boron sector, you get the starting message, telling you that an Argon military convoy has been attacked by Yaki, who boarded a Carrier and made off with it. This is notification that the plot is available to start; it does not begin until you take the initiative and follow the steps outlined;

The Hunt Begins

The plot begins somewhere in Pirate space around Brennan’s Triumph. A station that could be up to three Sectors away will have a book symbol; the contact on board you need to talk to is a Teladi treasure hunter.
Spoiler
Show
The Teladi wants some very profitable information, but to stop you from running off with it, he wants you to pay 50,000Cr before you are told where to look for it. Where to look turns out to be a contact in Yaki space. You must head over and try to find them. Pick up an Advanced Satellite along the way, and you’ll find a couple of Hornets useful too.

The contact is in sector Senator’s Badlands, flying a ship named Trouble Seeker. When you fly over you find that she’s less than talkative. Your mission objective changes to her Advanced Satellite. Blow it to pieces. Following that, you’ll have to destroy her Lasertowers. Once completed, she gets the message. She’ll give you the info you want once you’ve replaced her satellite. Drop it near the beacon.
Clue 1
Spoiler
Show
She’ll tell you that the Colossus did pass through the sector, along with some ‘valuable cargo’, but the owner hid it to avoid detection. You are told not to give the information to your employer. That isn’t a stupid move; this is obviously worth more than 50,000Cr. There’s a trail of clues leading to the ship’s location, the first says;

“From the end of the kingdom move one and five, there is a rock among many, that holds a surprise. Jarren Gisler, 10/5/44”

Welcome to the Treasure Hunt. You’ll have many clues to solve like this, some are easy, some are hard. If you can’t work out where you’re supposed to go, then continue through the walkthrough.
Spoiler
Show
It’s fairly obvious that Kingdom End is being used as a reference point here. There’s only one place that could be ‘the end of the kingdom’. Move one and five; that implies sectors. In this case, it means one sector east and five south, putting you in Ore Belt. Hence the rocks. As for what looks like a date – 10/5/44 – try them as co-ordinates instead. Use your autopilot’s “Move to position” command to dump you at about the right location and see what you get.
Clue 2
Spoiler
Show
Your scanners will automatically lock onto the correct asteroid when you get in range. Blow it to pieces with one of your Hornets. There will be a data storage device hidden inside which you collect for your next clue;

“x = Minimum jumps needed from the Foundation Guild HQ to the space of the Queen.

y = x minus 1

Iaron Seldon 25-1-50”

Try and figure it out; it requires a bit of knowledge of X lore to figure this one.
Spoiler
Show
The Foundation Guild HQ is in The Hole. The minimum number of jumps from there to Queen’s Space is 4. Hence, the sector co-ordinate is 4,3; 4 being horizontal, 3 being vertical in standard navigation. What you might trip up on is that the numbering system begins at 0, not 1. So Kingdom End is sector 0,0. Hence, 4,3 is…

… Bala Gi’s Joy. Fly there and to the co-ordinates marked and claim what just became rightfully yours.
Clue 3
Spoiler
Show
“Visit the home of the Xenon that is surrounded by profit. Make your way east, but beware the keepers; their numbers give them strength.
Tzessosis Rudilis Luuligos II”

Give it a shot.
Spoiler
Show
The Xenon sector surrounded by profit collectors would be Xenon Sector 347. Recommend that you take along at least 100 Mosquito missiles.

The device is a long way east of the centre of the Sector. Try and dodge Xenon capital ships, swat light fighters and run away from heavy fighters.

The Keepers are a group of fighter drones that will spawn when you arrive. Four Mosquitoes lobbed at each one should remove them from the sitation quite quickly. When they’re all dusted, the data storage device will spawn. Picking it up loads up the fourth clue;
Clue 4
Spoiler
Show
“In the sector with the 4 suns there are 7 emissaries.
1 holds the key, the other 6 hold peril.
Almanckatsalss”

This one requires lore again.
Spoiler
Show
The sector with 4 suns is Akeela’s Beacon.

The 7 emissaries are 7 beacons, one of which has the next clue, the other six spawn enemies when approached. Finding the right one is trial and error. To find them at all will require use of a Kestrel equipped with a Triplex Scanner and sector mapping software; Navigation Command is necessary. Some of the beacons are a long way off the ecliptic, so you'll have to run scan patterns 25km above and below the ecliptic to find them all (it may be necessary to run further scans 50km off the ecliptic, some beacons have been up to 60km off the ecliptic plane). The beacon with the clue will jump you across to the Sector to where the data storage device actually is located.
Clue 5
Spoiler
Show
Picking it up gives clue number 5;

“Three rocks, far away from a vast stony cloud, are your next destination. Find them, and the crate will be easy to spot. The Anagram is the key to gaining knowledge of the wherabouts of the next piece.
Arv Pegasus”
Spoiler
Show
“Arv Pegasus” is an anagram of Savage Spur. There are three ‘roids (which werent't there previously) in the north of the Sector which the crate is located near. It's fairly easy to find them, especially if you'd already scanned all the asteroids in the Sector.
Clue 6
Spoiler
Show
Clue number 6 is;

“Once you have a firm grasp of where it all began a very, very long time ago, travel until you come to an End;
S-S-S-S-E-S-W-W-N-W-N-W
Hili Bo, 26-11-49”
Spoiler
Show
‘Where it all began’ is Seizewell, the jump-in point for one Kyle Brennan many years previously in the opening of X-BTF and hence 'where it all began', both for him and for Egosoft. Following the trail from there leads you to President’s End. Head for the co-ordinates and you find your box of magic; in this case, black magic, as clue number 7 is the most difficult one to solve;
Clue 7
Spoiler
Show
“The journey leads you to a sector in the West. There are not two of them. It can be reached from the South or from the North or with a few jumps, either way you should get home. Once you find it, you will see the light. 7 7 18 -5 -12 23 -23 32. The numbers are the path. Aron Hang 0-50-0”
Spoiler
Show
The numbers lead you through the text, telling you which word to pick out next. The seventh word is “sector”, another seven along is “two”, etc etc. forming;

“sector – two – jumps – north – of – home – of – light”.

In other words, Herron’s Nebula. Move to the marked co-ordinates and you’ll find your prize:
Clue 8
Spoiler
Show
“The last piece is buried in a rock. The rock is to be found in the clouds of the mighty Split patriarch. Make sure you have a Mineral Scanner.
Yo t’Sht”

Yes! The final clue is nigh!

Since the ruling Split family is the Rhonkar family, you are heading for Rhonkar’s Clouds. The container will be buried in a random asteroid; a Mineral Scanner and Navigation Command software are both must-haves. When you arrive, order your autopilot to run a scan of all asteroids in the sector. When you find the right one, let loose with another one of those Hornet missiles.
The quarry
Spoiler
Show
When you pick up the container, you get the following information;

“Now that you have all pieces of the puzzle you should know where to find the treasure. You will need to look for it in the far southern part of the sector, almost the size of the sector away from the centre.
Hanes Kellar”

You may be stumped for a moment, but you’ll then realise that one of the Sectors in the backing image is highlighted green. Oh yes. THAT Sector.
Spoiler
Show
How the heck your Yaki friend managed to hide anything at the back end of Xenon Sector 101 is beyond me, but he has. You must fly in and make your way south to the shipwreck of a Colossus carrier (co-ordinates -10, +10, -70 km, give or take a km or two). Have your weapons ready when you arrive. And try not to have too many Xenon in tow.

You need to get within 500m of the wreck to start a scan. When the scan completes, the logs are downloaded into your ship computer. But there’s a more pressing concern; your prize is trying to get away. It’s none other than the original X-perimental Shuttle, and you have to capture it.

To do this, just fire away to your heart’s content. It’s invincible. You must make the pilot bail, and then pick him up. It’s your old friend the treasure hunter, who has evidently been following you.

Once you’ve got him, get out of that Sector. Forget about the Shuttle, you can’t claim it yet.

You must take your Teladi hostage to Argon Prime shipyard for interrogation. When you arrive, you are told to prepare to rescue the Colossus’ crew from wherever they are being held.
The rescue
Spoiler
Show
After a few minutes in SETA, you will be ordered to rescue the crew being held on a TL in Savage Spur. You can take your time getting there. The TL will have escorts, depending on your ship (when you enter the sector) and fight rank. When you arrive, you must haul down the TL’s shields. You need to get in close whilst the crew members are transported aboard. Cover yourself from the escorts.

When the crew are all aboard, get out. Then jump back to Argon Prime’s Shipyard. When you arrive, you pick up your prize;
Spoiler
Show
The X-Shuttle is a fast M3 with good shields. However, it cannot be reproduced; RE’ing it is not possible. You have one and precisely one. Make good use of it.
That concludes the Treasure Hunt.

Some may have trouble with
Spoiler
Show
the drones when picking up the X347 clue. Maybe you could reccomend bringing PBEs, mosquitos or the like, or just a fast ship that can outrun the drones until they run out of power - there are enough to kill even an unwary M6 pilot, so warning is in order at least.
Allergic to work.

If at first you don't succeed, delegate the job to a minion.

Try using Map Sector three times with a ship equipped with a Triplex scanner, beginning at the middle of the Sector on elevations 0, +25 and -25. You should find everything then.

It makes no real world sense for frigates to have fighter bays, so that should go.
It makes plenty of sense. Fighters can serve as scouts, allow for the transfer of personnel or supplies, and as a captain's personal yacht. It's fine that a capital ship tasked with fighter defense has a few of its own to help out.

What doesn't make sense is that a capital carrier can't carry corvettes, bombers, or transports. They're dedicated carriers! They should have the facilities to handle everything smaller than a capital ship. Unfortunately this would require tweaking the game, since corvettes can be nearly as lethal as a frigate. A carrier would need some sort of separate storage for bigger or smaller ships.

Update: I found another two containers, but no luck :S

BTW(off), It will make sence if M1s where really carriers with ability to easy repair and equip fighters, and M7 where as they are now, just carry them no repair or equip or anything.

£10 says that the next one is the right one :wink: Have you conducted a full sector scan?

Also; what was with those other posts? How can a thread be 'accidentally' merged?

This topic and another had some spam (kind of) posted to it, and I commented on it in this topic and then a mod removed the spam (and my comment about it) from this topic while also removing the spam from the middle of the other topic and the last two posts from the other topic got put at the end of this topic by mistake and in the mean time someone had replied to the other topic so the two posts from the other topic ended up here.

It wasn't my fault though ;)

Make sense?

I'm on clue 5 and I figured out where to go, but I'm not finding the pick up. Any more precise tips on where to find it? Coords maybe? Is it way above or below the elliptic?

From the East Gate, Head north, and slightly west. there will be three asteroids near each other, and seperated from the rest of the field. Triplex scanners help here.

Took me a bit of googling to find it myself.

Head to Xenon Sector 101
x -10
y +10
z -70

You should see the wreck if you head that way =)

If you've already mapped/scanned the asteroids before acquiring Clue 8, a new asteroid appears, making it quite easy to figure out which one you need to pop.
