@LV: OOoh. It even supports Wiki. So people can put up descriptions and manuals for their scripts. Yay! I like the wiki 'cause then just about anyone can put in updates, like "Does not work with...", "Requires patch x, will not work with patch >x, etc"

Problem would be getting people to all jump in the boat and use it.
Could you poke Moggy and see if he wants to post the various areas of hosting (XiaCorp, FileFront, Google, etc) up on the main S&M list? It would do the community good.

One thing I noticed about the Google one though, they'd have to be invited to join before uploading from the looks of it. And it isn't very... pretty. Imagine some wiki-goodness could rectify that a bit. I'll send ya a request once I figure out how (though I do not script, I could help with some documentation and minor management)
X games - addictive as heck. Always something to come back to.

There's also The X Universe which allows for attachments to be uploaded along with posts in the respective Sections. :)

TXU is also very well equipped with all sorts of fancy options and possibilities to make these things easier. :)

I like that TXU is hosting and stuff, and I love-love-LOVE XTM/XTC(soon?)

The only complaint I have (and this is 100% personal preference) with downloading from XTU is well... layout. It can get really messy. Really needs a cleaner way of looking for and retrieving a download. The thread style there kinda makes me "EEK". Probably more to do with the CMS they use than anything. Of course I was always particular to stuff like e107 and similar, as they had dedicated download sections.

A project site can have a list of approved google accounts for uploading (without giving full access). There's also the one-site-per-script way of doing it, though admittedly it's not as quick as throwing a file up on one of those cursed *share.net sites. For bigger things like rrf/xtm/fdn/etc the bugtracker might prove useful.

BTW., what is the official policy on mirroring? Suppose someone wrote a perl script to parse the first post of every topic with [stuff] in the title, find any links to downloads (or linked pages with downoads), and automatically make them available on the web...does it have to be opt-in, or is opt-out fine?

It would be amazing to have a site/place like that.

But the storage space, and the bandwidth need would be EXTREMLY high.

Well, as far as using google code, hey, it's google. They have so much space it isn't funny.

Dunno how much moggy has on Xia-Corp... don't think I've really seen any large mods there though, so I tend to lean towards average space there. Moggy could tell us :P

Moggy hasn't posted since 08 Jul 2009 : I doubt putting up the [ external image ] would work as his current status is MIA ;)
