[MOD] GUI Remake
by enenra aka DSE

Introduction
Some of you might remember my mod for X3:R. Those who don't: I did a mod similar to this one for Reunion, but that one wasn't as good as this one is, which is due a large part because by creating the X3:R mod, I gathered experience and so I was able to not do the same mistakes as back then.
While that old mod was more of a HUD-Remake, this new one concentrates mainly on a remake of the GUI - the menus and icons.
The mod features a completely remade GUI - from the sidebar to the incoming message-window.

Version info

There are four versions so far. Two different colors and two different HUD-types. There will be probably more color-variations in the future.
  • Blue GUI
This version features the standard HUD and also the remade GUI with a blue 'selection color'.
  • Green GUI
This version features the standard HUD and also the remade GUI with a green 'selection color'.
  • Orange GUI
This version features the standard HUD and also the remade GUI with a orange 'selection color'.

Installation

There's not much to say about it. Place the .cat- and .dat-files in your \X3 Terran Conflict\mods\-directory. If you do not have that directory, create it. Then choose the mod when starting up your game.

Technical infos

A short list of the files contained in this mod.
  • dds\gui_master.dds
  • dds\interface_framework_XT_diff.dds
  • dds\interface_template_blackpearl_diff.dds

What makes the reduced version reduced? It seems to have more changes than the 'normal' version.
Irrational factors are clearly at work.

I was wondering that, too.
The ship class symbols are far bigger than the default ones, cluttering screen and gravidar more than the vanilla HUD.
My complete script download page. . . . . . I AM THE LAW!
There is no sense crying over every mistake. You just keep on trying till you run out of cake.

Yeah i mean. I like the reduced version, going to give it a try, but 'reduced' seems the wrong name for it...

I removed the braces around all objects in space apart from the object currently targeted. To compensate the hardly noticeable ship icon, I added the circles around the object icons.
I didn't want to use half-transparent circles because it just didn't seem to fit in with the rest of the HUD design.

I would absolutely LOVE a mod that removes all those damn brackets from around everything. However, none of your screenshots seem to load?

just tested it and imo it's marvellous.

a minor problem is the cursor though. in some sectors the cursor is really hard to see, because it blends into the background.

Same here, i love the reduced version, but can you make the cursor blue, for example?

Huh?
No problem here. Or what are you referring to? The thumbnails or the full sized screenshot?

@Mugenjin & Anoik

I'll see what I can do about that. I don't want a completely blue cursor as it wouldn't fit in with the rest of the GUI but I think a blue outline would work. :)

Great GUI modification- except for one aspect...

I keep losing the mouse cursor on the screen because of how dark the mouse cursor is when inactive.

Add a little color/highlight tweaking to make the inactive mouse cursor easier to differentiate from the general darkness of space and I'm sold for life on the blue minimal setting! (Green would look great too i bet)

I recently tried out several versions of this new GUI and really like how it looks, but like some other posts mentione. I had to stop using it because I can't find the cursor half the time on the black back grounds. It drives me nuts when I am in the middle of a battle and I need a quick mouse click change and can't find the cursor. Other than that it is a great remake on the GUI. :)

Update.

Coloured cursor and another colour variation - green. :)

Reduced version removed - didn't really work out well.

Changed the radar so it stands out less.

Another update, previous version was compressed wrongly. Works now.

Thanks for the update!
It seems however the download links are still pointed to the old files?
All three of then still have .dat files dated 10-12'09

I put the files into the wrong folder. No wonder it was reported that the bug hadn't been fixed.

Now fixed, definitely. Please redownload.

no offence,

I really dont see the point of this, because:

1. i actually like the new interface
2. you just seem to be going back to the old "Blocky" interface of previous x games...

Then don't download it?

Are you serious? What could you possibly hope accomplish from your post?

No problem. You're free to keep your vanilla HUD - I won't force anyone to use this mod.

But consider that not everyone has the same taste like you and that there might be quite a few who prefer this GUI over the vanilla one. ;)
