Hey guys ready to buy my first big toy but dreading the thought of flying around to about 50 stations because each only stocks 1 of each laser.

Any tips?

First thiers a BIG difference between those 2 so really figuire out what you want. M6's are like really powerful frighters with alot of guns(can dock at anything like fighters). M7's are legitimate cap ships(with the same docking restrictions of TL/M1/M2's)

As for equiping, M6s its better to just go hunting for the stuff you will need in the ship, but with a M7 you will want to leave the ship at the shipyard and go fetch everything you want to equip the ship with in another ship and bring it back to the M7. Also when equiping a M7 you need to get at least 1 fighter(the m3 falcon hauler is best for this) that is used to make runs to the stations you need things for the M7 as it can't dock at most stations.

As for suggestion, of ships, thats up to you, just look at them in the info screen and you will figuire which one is better suited for you. Weapon wise you should put anti fighter weapons like PRG/flak etc in your turrets and some heavy hitters up front in your main(I go with a split 4 PPC in group 1 and 4 IDs in group 2 as main guns suck power like a crack addiction if you go with all heavy and all firing at once from the same group, plus I use 2 differnt types for weapons for different situations. PPC for mixing it up with the intent to destroy what I am fighting. IDs to keep shields down when boarding but don't want to break the ship.

P.S. I am guessing you aren't rolling in credits so avoid M7Ms for now as they suck missiles quick and is best when you can afford to setup your own complexs to support thier missile usage.

That would depend which M7 he picks, wouldn't it? They don't all have docking bays!

True, but I woudn't touch those with a 10 foot pole for a personal flying ship. To hard to restock and require other ship following them around or a oh so fun easter egg hunt for the right military bases to get what you need

best tip I can give you on equipping them is once you've decided what to equip them with - use the encyclopaedia - that will tell you immediately the best places to check... and cut down wasted ecells and time!

factories are better than EDs or Military Bases, as they stock more, so check those first!

Good luck pilot!

The only problem with the encyclopedia is that it doesn't tell you if they're in stock Laughing

But I do love the encyclopedia, once I know where to shop I can ensure that npc production is at maximum output. Then all I have to worry about is beating the other npc traders to the purchase Rolling Eyes

If you can afford it, you could always build a complex that builds your
PPC or flaks for you.

The plex doesn't have to be fully self sufficent, but I tend to include ore
and food, just importing ecells, since they are always around.

You can homebase a TS with trade command s/w at the 'plex, set
the sell price to maximum and the number of jumps to 0. Then give the
TS the command to sell at best price. Iit will load up as each weapon is
completed, but hopefully won't actually try to sell any.
You can bring them over to your bigship when it's got a decent load.

Alternatively you could always equip a TS with a transporter device,
best buy s/w, supply command s/w etc and use the resupply ship
command to send it looking for your weapons. It may take a while
and the command stalls when it cant find any, so you may need to
re-issue occasionally

You don't need either. Equip a freighter with a jumpdrive and Navigation Command Software, and put a Transporter Device on your M7. Hey presto, you can now call your supply ship to you from anywhere in the universe, swap over what you need, and then tell it to go away again. I actually do that even for ships which DO have docking bays, because it's a darn sight quicker and easier to call in a freighter and transfer 3000 energy cells than it is to send out half-a-dozen fighters or freight drones to do it!

I've read here several times that it's sufficient to have a transporter device on your big ship for the resupply command. At least for the refuel command, you also need the transporter on the refueling ship, or the command will simply abort.

But yes, using freighters is much easier than M3's from your hangar. The only M3 that don't give me headaches in this category are Blastclaw Prototypes. Of course, I will also put a Falcon Hauler on a hangar for emergencies, if no Blastclaw is available.

Embarassed My bad - I have a tendency to automatically install all s/w on all ships if I
can afford it. A bad habit.

I've just checked with clevider's guide in the stickkies.

You shouldn't need trade command s/w for supply ship command to work,
but the resupply ship will need a transporter device and supply command
software for supplying weapons.

EDIT: Don't forget to give the supply ship a jumpdrive, and set the
jumpdrive commands accordingly.

Autojump - yes
Autojump minimum jump range - 1
Fuel resupply quantity (jumps) - 120

Otherwise your resupply ship will travel at 'Space normal speed' as Kirk
put it and take forever to get the job done.

There is a universal best-buy / best-sell script in the S+M forum that works very well at providing you a comprehensive up-to-date list of who is selling what, where. There are other 'hunt wares' scripts as well, but the nice thing about this one is that you do have to go buy things manually. It only aids you in checking each dock remotely and summing it up in a list, so it doesn't feel too much like cheating, only sanity-saving.

Another thing to do is set up 1+ freighters as weapons purchasers and jump them remotely dock-to-dock hunting for wares. Equip with Best B+S software to check for deals in whatever sector their in, then dock with said stations/factories and purchase. Once done, jump to the next likely sector and repeat. Setting them with 'tell me when order's complete' will alert you when they dock, which helps (if it doesn't slowly erode your sanity).

Thanks for the info guys!

K So I’ve purchased a Titan and bout to buy a colossus.

I equipped the Titan, tried to use the same weapons as the one in Home of Light.

What’s the best combo for arming these two ships?

I don’t want to control them myself so it needs to be something good for AI

Any ideas or tips?
