I Copied the entire X3TC folder before doing this, and I advise you do the same just in case, though i had no problems.

Download the 2.5 patch straight from Egosoft, run the patch installer, change the directory that the patch installer uses to where steam puts it the X3 folder, usually Steam/Steamapps/Common/X3TC.

Then use CFF Explorer found here ( http://www.ntcore.com/exsuite.php ), open the X3TC.exe file with CFF explorer, select file header on the list on the left, and now on the right side box in the bottom right click on the blue box that says click here and you'll be shown a list of boxes, check the "app can handle >2 gb address space", then overwrite original file.

Steam had no issue starting the game when i did this.

Cheers for this, it seems to be working for me (works with the small 2.1-2.5 patch, didn't bother trying the big patch).

Going to go have a test of how the game runs now!

Update: Well it does use the extra RAM but still has crashing issues for me by the looks... Sad

I'm using a DVD 2.0 version and this fixed the LAG issue for me.

You have tried swapping the ram slot by slot? some ram can be fine in one slot and not in another, it's worth a try, also check ram seatings as vibration can cause memory error's and unexplained crash to desktop's.

Bravo! Your suggestions worked great. Just checked in-game and it seems to be working fine. Egosoft - if you're reading this - please make this an option when you put out your next patch! Or better yet, fix the issue in the first place! Thanks...

I have quite thoroughly tested the RAM and though it is always possible that there could still be an issue with it, that seems very unlikely given that bad RAM would usually cause occasional BSOD or entire system lock ups at one time or another.

Currently this is the only game (including the many steam games) that has these few issues and I know that doesn't necessarily prove it is this game but I would consider it reasonable to believe that these are X3TC specific issues. I am unsure of what to do from this point to test any further without some way of turning on extensive logging to see what is happening up until the point that the game either drops the fps (losing the hud) down to an unplayable level or crashes to desktop.

I think you can just run the patch installer and it will overwrite the steam patch. I deleted 09.cat/dat just in case, and the fix worked for me. I think the patch installer just extracts 09.cat/dat and x3tc.exe to the directory you pick and overwrites without checking any of your game files.

Ok this is really frustrating. I just tried the above procedure, having the steam client - everything worked fine, except now my game comes up in german. If I could read german, I wouldn't have a problem, but since I can't, this is a bit of a bummer.

I know I was in the english patch section, but when after two downloads and reinstalls it still came up in german, I even went to fileshack and downloaded it yet again to make absolutely sure it was the english patch. After 3 reinstalls of the 1.01 > 2.5 patch now, the game still comes up in german and I can't for the life of me figure out why or change it back to english!

any help would be appreciated.. I can't play!

Thanks,

Check that the lang.dat file in your TC directory contains the code 44.

Thanks Eladan, that's the tip I needed. I had checked that file last night and it had number 48 in it, but I didn't have any clue what that meant at the time. I have no idea how or why it changed itself, I certainly didn't do it manually! I had even tried deleting that file right before re-running the patch I downloaded from FileShack, and it still re-appeared with 48 in it.

I'm back to english now, so thanks again.

Why did you download the patch from Fileshack instead of the Egosoft site?

I tried twice from Egosoft's site first and it kept starting up with the german version, that's why I tried from Fileshack. I was just trying something different, wanted to make sure there wasn't something crossed up on ES's site.

Thank you very much for providing this. Bugged me to no end when 4gb usage was disabled.

I'm not on the Steam version, but I assume this will work for me as well.

Just wasted an hour and a half of transporting resources, only to have the game slow to a halt in Mars!

This should fix it =)
