[TC] Best personal ship?

Post by Camel_Racer_ »

So what do people think the best personal ship is (the ship that you always fly around in).
M6? M7?

In TC Angel or Chokaro depending on your preference to either transport people or return abandoned ships. If it's Reunion... buy TC.

I like the look of the stats of the Aegir. 132 m/s isn't bad for an M7 bad boy.

X3R: The Yacht of Pontifex Maximus Paranidia
X3TC: Boa in the beginning, then Hyperion Vanguard/Springblossom
A fighter as personal ship? Humm, not for me. Too little cargo space for jump fuel.

Aegir has nice all the stats (shields, generators, 360 degrees turret coverage, speed) but it lacks teeth like most Terran ships do...

With a lack of anti-cap weapons it has a limited use. Also, you need to cap it and it might get tricky with its speed.

X3R I liked the LX as a personal ship. Hyperion was also good but I got my destroyed OOS with no close savegame.

X3TC: I like the springblossom, can kill everything up to a destroyer if necessary, excellant cargo space. Great speed, which is important for a personal ship. Feels abit like cheating though. I also don't like using auto-aim (feels like cheating) and the lasers are quite off centre so can't hit anything smaller than a M6 without boresight.

For best of breed use a Hyperion Vanguard with a docked Kestrel for scouting a long with your favorite fighter.

For all-in-one use the Springblossom.

Don't use a fighter because there are M6's that are nearly as fast and can hold much more jump fuel. Not to mention that Plasma Guns have nearly ruined dog fighting with a fighter. Yes you can range the PBG if you're only taking on a couple of fighters but the one-versus-many dog fighting that I found so enjoyable in X3R with a Medusa or Xenon LX is pretty much impossible now due to the massively overpowered plasma generators.

I alway try to get myself a fast heavy fighter ASAP in TC. Depending on what rules I set myself, it'll be a certain race ship. In my current game as Goner, I have restricted myself to only flying Argon/Terran ships as PERSONAL ships. Thus my first favourite was the Argon Nova Raider (M3). I then went on to doing some plot missions and got myself the Vidar (M6). Advancing further in plot missions, I helped myself to a Spitfire (M3), which currently is my most-used ship. At the moment, I am kitting out a Springblossom (M6) with experimental shock wave guns and matter/anti-matter launchers to have a tinker with that, as my Vidar struggles in the Final Fury plot taking on too many Khaak Clusters plus the corvettes.

Well it´s still possible but needs a completely different approach than in X3R. You really have to become friends with your missiles in TC.

As for best personal ship... currently i´m switching between a Nova Raider, Jaguar Raider, HCP (Heavy Centaur Prototype), Agamemmnon, Kraken and Chokaro; whatever fits the job at hand.

Are they the best ships? Propably not, but they are fun to fly, can do what i want them to do and aren´t ridiculously overpowered.

Indeed, in TC you will either need missiles or speed. In the Spitfire I can take on big groups of fighters and corvettes and still come out on top simply because I can deploy scout ship attack patters, i.e., hit and run. It just takes time. Missiles were pretty obsolete in the game up until TC. Due to the increased difficulty of killing ships beyond the size of what you are sitting in, missiles have become a viable option for use rather than just trade ... and I am still learning them. :D

In TC I'm playing a non kill on sight game, only if someone attacks one of my factories or its' plot required, do they get moved to the other side of the curtain, my personal craft is Kestrel.

Yea, but then they make things a little too easy. I can remember 45 minute guns-only dog fights at the north gate of Moo-Kye's Revenge in X3R in my Xenon LX. As powerful as the LX was, it was still a real challenge to take on 40 or 50 pirates in a single fighter. I had a lot of fun doing this, and made tons of money from the bailouts.

Now, if I jumped in and unloaded 35 missiles and took out 30 of 40 pirates the whole thing was over in 10 minutes or less, and was far less challenging.

I've always loved the one-vs-many fight... all the way back to the X-Wing & Tie Fighter games. It's just a crying shame that it's not possible to do this in X3 anymore.

Hyperion

Lots of cargo, high speed, high shielding, high power, 2 hangar slots

Why would you want anything else

I love the SpringyB. It is my first game in the X3 universe so I wanted it to be a little easy. IT IS STILL NOT EASY <laugh>

Maybe if restart at some point I might want a handy cap but for a first game the SpringBlossom kicks ass.

Who in there right mind wants to crawl across the universe in some slow POS when you can have a fast ship that ROCKS!
