I had to jump more than 135 times until I finally found it (and every jump I was searching accurately for it (select a Big (!!!) Asteroid, press F3, zoom out, several 3D turnarounds))
Finally I found it and with 5* marines it took me approx. 18 attempts until they could break the hull and finally boarded it!
And from time to time I had to kill some Xenon (M, N, L, P and K). So I defenitely had to invest some more time than just 2 hours :D

I don't know how often you have tried it so far, but I have heared from several other people, who have tried as well more then 100 times. But there are also some people who found it after a few jumps.

PS: In worst case be carefull with the hull. Maybe you need to repair it a little bit longer, otherwise your Marines will abort the boarding because of too much hull damage. Here you can use the SETA trick to speed up the process in real time:

- drop the SETA from your ship
- exit the ship and collect the SETA in your space suit
- now target the ARAN with your repair laser and press "CTRL" and "j" simultaneously
--> Have to point out, that after returning to the ship the SETA of your space suit will be lost and there is no way to drop it from space suit or transfer it back to the ship (at least no known way for me)

the hull of the aran can go up to 30 % if you get lucky as i did and found one with 10% you really neeed maxxed eng. on then.

i am at 52% of the aran R.E process.
the mats required for this will most likely fill up 90% or more of the space availble in your PHQ.

my plans is to build a couple , and use it as outposts

a bit off topic

outpost should be available to player with the ability to only repair and Scraps ships in the same manner as the PHQ, alo should provide at least 1 docking bay for M1 or M2 or M7. there you have another possible mission reward. an outpost :)

It took me only a few jumps to find my first Aran which was a feint glow off in the distance (~30km?). After a dozen or more tries I gave up on it because its hull was so low that it kept going critical even though my marines all had 5 stars in engineering. Blowing it up took only a handful of ISRG shots.

It took me something like 75-100 more jumps to find one that was visible from the jump-in point and that one was only like 3km from where I came in and it capped on my first try.

I hope they don't take this away in a future patch because it would be nice having at least one ship with its docking capabilities, even if it is too slow for most uses. I figure this is the real reward for the Gonar plot. I felt jilted the first time around, given how useless the UFJ is otherwise in practical terms.

no idea. i heard there might be issues.
(bug) so it is hard to tell. (got 1, RE, and now rebuilding)

there is a few peeps with 2 of then.

Since the Aran is a M1 class ship that can dock other M1 class ship, then theoretically, may be we could dock unlimited number of M6/Fighters and Arans in a single Aran.

Somebody gotta try this :)

Just curious, why would you dock an Aran on an Aran (or any M1/2 for what it matters)? Having jumdrive/fuel shortages?
There's nothing in the universe so threatening that would require more than one single M7M to destroy it. And if you really want to fight with a fleet, you can just jump the entire fleet at once. The game allows this.

I don't understand the hype about the Aran. OK, it can dock M6s and M8s, but that's about it. Being able to dock bigger ships isn't really useful IMO. Just another pretty toy, like the Truelight Seeker.

whoah! I finally saw the Aran! In my random UFJD sector it spawned very very far from scan range (triplex) but with the asteroid trick and a bit of luck I spotted a yellow light ... no Xenon ship has yellow light... I killed all small xenon pests and took the couple of K's for a ride far away from it.

Saved and now ready to board it with my 5* marinez!

the standard Egosoft boarding command is crappy! My marines are ejected but did not move or move in random directions.... annoying!

Can someone of the scripters around figure out how to restore the Aran back to normal without having to RE it? (that requires the PHQ and is waaay far from most players)

you can do it yourself with not much effort, spawn two with Cheat Package and give them the order to dock.

Super fleet of doom? The Aran undocks lots of Arans which undock more Arans which undock a ready made fleet of a hundred M1/2/7/6s which undock a thousand M3s!

Not of any practical use but a great visual gag to amuse yourself with.

nope! the Aran has only 1 bigship docking port, so docked arans are like a chain Aran1-Aran2-Aran3-Aran4-M1/2/7

so this way you can dock thousands of M6 and lesser but only one bigship.

....Apparantly not!!!

Very useful for getting 30 freighters to the jumpdrive shop.

Given how crippled its speed is I don't think it's particularly useful outside of a few specific tasks. On thing for which it might be well suited would be to cap other Arans, since you could jump in with an M2 and a bunch of corvettes so you'd be able to more easily cap in hostile territory. But then you just have two ships with limited functionality.

That said, it is cool to have a ship with such unique characteristics and I think it would be nice if egosoft threw together a post-Gonar, post-everything else mission to cap an unbugged one. All it would take would be a message from the Gonar saying they got a message that this thing was hijacked with something/someone important aboard and they want you to find it, yadayada. If this came late-game, then it wouldn't be unbalancing in the slightest.

I don't think it's unreasonable as it is - REing and then having to build one to use it properly. e.g. it's advanced Goner tech that you don't really understand until you've taken it apart.

Not that Goners understand their own technology anyway - witness the UFJD side-effects! :p
