Duke's Freighters?

Anyone else noticing these weird enemy freighters that float around a lot?
Dukes Freight Transport, Duke's Dangerous Goods Transporter etc etc
They are all red, and are attacked by sector defence agencies, killing them reduces no faction standing (strange for paranid), I don't recall ever having attacked them either to make them hostile.

I understand they are one of the major corporations, but why do they hate me and all the sector defence agencies so much :shock:
I just want to use their freighters for free UT's after all :D

Apparently a non-governmental organisation, why does that mean they have to hate every single government? and more importantly me.

Have I botched up my game, or is there a part in the plot relating to this (if so please don't tell me it, just say its due to plot).

I think they're pretty much the pirate/illegal deeds company.

Duke's Haven Wares List

As you can see the station offers some illegal wares/software, and freight scanner countermeasures.

Most game starts have dukes as enemies. THe key is in the name: Duke Bucaneers. Although they like to refer to themselves as a 'Corporation' they're really pirates at heart, Yarrr!

Yeah, whether they're red or not to begin with depends on which start you choose, one or the more tolerant ones like Teladi or Goner should have them blue.

Even though all I've ever seen them carry is their shields + turret.

I was about to take one down last night until I queried the Info and found it was bound for my newly established Spaceweed Complex.

Reprieve granted...

I think it's a case of being enemy by default rather than actively hostile as you can fly up close and they won't fire unless fired upon.

If you upset any of the Dukes minions,they can make it almost impossible to dock at Dukes Haven to buy those specialists equipment.

I've ignored the dukes ships completely in my game but maybe thats a good thing. Maybe I should see about gettin docking rights to the HQ :)

I may have done somthing to them ages ago how ot i get them not to hate me anymore!???? (so i can dock at thier hq without being attacked by thier fleet? )

You don't need to bother being friendly, just blow up the HQ. When it respawns it'll be friendly. Or so I hear.

And thier fleet? consisting on several m6 one m2 (hercules i think) and about a couple of dozen fighters? (seriously it feels almost like a xenon sector when i go there!!!

Yeah, it will be friendly if you have enough reputation with the pirates. Do some missions for the pirates, and at a certain reputation you will see the duke's ships going blue...

whenu say missions u just mean bog standard missions for them from friendly pirate bases and such??? (and it was a paranid zeus btw i got mixed up!!!)

I meant any mission offered by a pirate, not only the one offered from pirate bases.
It is easy to see if the person offering you the mission is pirate or not.

I actually went to the Duke's sector for the first time a couple of days ago and found the HQ to be friendly. I've maybe only shot down one or two of the Dukes ships in my game but I am on good terms with the pirates. However the Dukes defense ships were not friendly but a combination of my Cobra and a Paranid task force sorted that out (I got a Zeus and 2 Nemesis!). It seems that capturing them with missiles doesn't upset the HQ.

actually dont do any kill missions for the pirates.
u will still need to kill some other pirate ships and so loose more reputation as u will gane from the mission.

so to conclude i must go in break past the pirate zeus the 6 nemesis and the brigantine (oh yes theres a brigantine) and kill the station by which time when it respawns it will be freindly??? Is that all???? (no really im asking!!!)
