3D Models and Stats Viewer version 2.0.3.1 (released 25th June 2010)

Post by exogenesis » Tue, 10. Feb 09, 00:58

This post is related to the X-Universe thread

3D Models and Stats Viewer (version now updated to 2.0.3.1 Superbox version)
http://forum.egosoft.com/viewtopic.php? ... 92#2765992

I've added this post to this forum to allow discussion of modding questions without getting the whole thread above getting moved here.
(there's a similar thread in X3:Reunion S & M forum, cos of seperate forums :) )

Crashes everytime I try to load it, is it since I have the Steam version of X3TC?

I've assumed a Steam X3 directory has the same contents as a DVD install X3 directory.
Maybe that's not true?

At what point exactly does it crash?, when you've just pointed to the X3 directory, or after that?

What OS are you using XP, Vista ?

And lastly what mods have you installed?

Hi i'm running X3 TC(DVD) under Xp SP3

The program doesn't seem to like a .cat file in the mod directory or the 07.cat file in the main X3 Tc directory. Once I removed these the program works great.

Could you tell me which mod that is from ?

Doesn't like the 07.cat?, it load OK here, is that 2.0b3, 2.0b4 or 2.0rc1?

(must sleep now...)

Not using any "mods". I did change the stats on the SPARE LASER 1 tLasers file and the associated tBullets file plus added a language file for it's description.

OS is XP-SP3

Crashes upon loading, after I've associated the directory.

This is sweet. I started writing down all the laser configurations for my ships at one point but gave up. This makes it so much easier. You have my thanks!

Looks like I need to test these mods directly here,
I tested with major mods like X3:R XTM & NH, but not so much for X3:TC.

TERRAN-CONFLICTOR & Hope Slayer, any change of uploading the mods or file-sets somewhere?
I assume they're not mega-large in file-size terms?

Defektiv - making it easier & accessible is what it's all about :)

EDIT: just remembered, if you put the viewer into diagnostic mode,
you should be able to see the exact item it was loading if it crashes

Use regedit to get to :
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\X3Models3DFunfair
and set the entry
DiagnosticMode
to 1, then rerun the viewer.

THe 0.7 cat is what the Plugin Manager Creates when you install scipts via Cycrows plugin Manager. I assume when a new patch is released the number will change?

As for the mods, the mod i'm using was a port of one ship to from X3R to TC. It's about 5mb, If take out the Mod, the viewer still crashes with 0.7.cat

I work with an installation of TC which is unpacked completely - no dats or cats - but the ModelViewer doesn't allow me to select it as the installation folder of the game - any chance you could change that? :)

TERRAN-CONFLICTOR :
I assume that X3:TC v2.0 will have a 07.cat, so you'll have to increase yours to 8 then, I guess.

Don't understand how if you 'take out the mod' that the 07.cat remains??,
or am I missing you meaning?

enenra :
There's quite a lot of code in the Viewer to handle 'raw' mode like you've got,
but I'm not sure it all works correctly (obviously not), I'll test it more thoroughly soon.
There were even requests for more detailed modification 'special' directories going back a bit,
like choosing another name in the viewer for your raw 't' & 'types' dir, but this is only superficially implemented.
Later I hope to make a drive for more modding-type functionality like this.

In the X3 TC directory there is a folder called "Mod", thats where fan mods & user mods are stored. I've got a .cat in there that has X3 R ships I ported over.

If I remove that .cat & remove the 07.cat that the plugin Manager creates your viewer works wonderfully.

OK, I didn't know pluginmanager created another cat file in the main directory, as well as pluginmanager.cat in the \mod dir.

Could you upload all files relating to adding your ships somewhere,
I assume this would be: \07.cat and \mod\pluginmanager.cat ?

The plugin manager only creates a 0.7.cat

I haven't tried it with the Hawksbs Battlestar Mod to see if i get the same results? I'll try now.

Edit* It does it with the above mod aswell?

When I remove both the 0.7 cat and the BSG mod viewer works fine??

Does viewer scan for certain files and when it can't find them bugs out?
