OK, no sign of ffdshow in your codec list. You do however have more Nero codecs than you can shake a stick at, and as mentioned in the Common Problems sticky thread, these can cause problems too.
I guess you expected this but any recomendations for adjusting set-up? I really wouldnt know where to start removing/replacing them or knowing the implications of doing so.

I think this has drifted off-topic rather for this thread. Start by simply uninstalling Nero Showtime as recommended in the Common Problems thread, then make a new thread if you need further advice or suggestions. Of course you've not yet actually stated what your actual problem is or why you are trying to do this, so that would be a good starting point for that thread. :)

This topic should be posted in every section of X3TC I see people saying that its cuz all the ships and rocks in the game that it lags like as if its doing major computing for all the ships which I thought to cuz it seemed to get laggier as the game went on when I entered systems with like 30 or 40 ships. One guys has even been making a mod to the game to try and fix what he thinks is massive lag from all the ships. I was bummed to cuz my spec are as follows.

3.2 Ghz cpu
4 Gigs of ram
260 GTX overclocked to almost 280 speeds
Windows vista 64 bit with every non essential processes shutdown

Then I saw this lovely little thread and what do you know no lag at all runs like a dream. Kill those ffdshow codec's and all will be good in the X3TC world.

Sorry for the partial necroing of this thread, but I wanted to say thanks to the OP for posting this. It has helped me fix my X3:R and X3:TC games which were having CTD issues. Thanks mate!

Given that the tools to disable ffdshow for specific applications are part of ffshow itself, not part of Windows, I would imagine the technique for Windows 7 is exactly the same as for any other version of Windows.

Where would one look on the dxdiag to see whether ffdshow is installed or not?

(It's not necroing if the thread is stickied right?)

Oh so you would just search for ffdshow?

Before I saw this post I experienced a CTD and when I opened task mgr I saw a message about ffdshow. I had selected "always use ffdshow with this program" when I saw the prompt.
After reading this post I selected the "don't use ffdshow" under media player tool-options-dvd advanced tab and listed x3tc.exe.
I hope the first instruction won't cancel the second.
And I didn't see x3tc.exe listed in the "use ffdshow only in" list.

I've played TC over 600 hours and the music has always been very quiet and low quality, always wondered why but never bothered to check for a fix. Disabled FFD and suddenly I can actually hear the music, for the first time :S

So thanks for posting this.

You might have ffdshow icon in the system tray area by default. No search required for configure the codecs

@ Virtualaughing: Please say to whom you are replying in posts made in multi-poster threads - but that is moot anyway as the latest system issue in this thread was posted 18 months ago.

I have installed the tool on Windows 8, because my game music was lost after I had installed an other audio decoder and than deleted.
Your audio decoder is great and now works also my Game under win 8.

I´m now happy!

Thanks for this hint!
