[SCRIPT] Find all Free Ships in the Universe - v2 *updated 11/26/2008*

Post by Graxster » Fri, 24. Oct 08, 01:28

Find Free Ships - v2
  • Adds a hotkey to find all ships with no pilots in the universe.
  • Results output to either the player logbook, or an external log file.
  • Results are displayed as [Sector name], [Ship name], [XYZ coordinates].
  • If the ship is in an Unknown Sector, the output will append the sectors connected to that sector. ie: Free Ship: Unknown Sector <- PTNI Headquarters: Nova X: 2000 Y: 4500 Z: 9450
Changes for version 2:

- No longer returns Neutral Race ships with Unknown Object as pilots (only returns ships if pilot name is "No Pilot").
- Added popup menu that asks whether you want output to go to player logbook or log file.
- Added SPK version for download.
- Included hotkey uninstall script.

Enjoy!

I also had a script (the NICE script) that would report the ship's sector and found that "Unknown Sector" isn't such a useful information after all.

I changed it to something like:
Unknown sector (13/15) near Unholy Descent.
The latter is the closest sector in jumps, that is not called "Unknown sector".

If you don't mind the brute force approach, just record a "reference sector" for each Unknown sector to display.
My complete script download page. . . . . . I AM THE LAW!
There is no sense crying over every mistake. You just keep on trying till you run out of cake.

Updated to make it easier to find Unknown Sectors. Updated again to add Hotkey assignment.

Not sure if I've misread the instructions, but it doesn't seem to be working for me.

I've put the scripts (.xml files) in my X3:TC scripts folder but when I go to the control - interface section in the game, there's nothing there to set a hotkey for.

What am I doing wrong?

Have you activated the script editor?

This also picks up the all the blue pirates that the game spawns in Argon core sectors.

This ships all have the pilot listed as 'Unknown Object' and they are happily flying around.

You might want to add this to the TC script list...

It's already listed, in the cheats sticky.

Edit: Updated to version 2. Thanks for the suggestions, sorry it took so long to get around to actually doing it.

I have also noticed this files end with extension *.spk where the other files in scripts folder are *.pck. Is this correct?

.SPK's are used for Cycrow's plugin manager, it makes it easir to install/UnInstall addons

I suppose you could consider it a cheat, since it will locate empty ships even if you don't have a satellite in the sector.

See amurph's post above, or just download the .rar version and extract it to the correct directory.

How about going one step further and assigning those ships to the player?

Because it is a step between administrating possible script-created ships (exact IS coordinates wouldn't have been necessary) and cheat-finding all free ships.

If you are going to cheat, you might as well just create a fleet of K's and Q's for yourself, play ten minutes, then uninstall the game when it becomes boring.

This script helped me figure out how certain other scripts worked. I wouldn't call it a cheat.

After all, anything can be a weapon, but that does not make wielding a keyboard in public a violation of the law. (Read: in most western countries)

Can you make one like this but that only shows the unclaimed ships in the sector you are in, or only ships that are in scetors you have ships/sats in? I'd like an easier way to see unclaimed ships, but I don't want it to be such a cheat, see.

I don't quite understand the coordinates in this. They are in the thousands and 10,000 numbers. Are those meters instead of km.? For instance, X = 66000 Y = 0 Z = 30000.

Thanks
