(spk format) - requires the Plugin Manager.

Technical:
  • This script creates 8 flying crates with Pandora tunings (4 engine, 4 rudder).
  • The crates will be put into random sectors, "far away from the ecliptic" - similar like they were in X3:Reunion.
Hints to find the tunings:
Spoiler
Show
The crates will be created in sectors that have AT LEAST 3 warp gates (orbital accelerators count as gates, too).
The crates will be at random coordinates; one coordinate is always 0, the two others coordinates are always +/- 100km.
 Happy hunting!

Changelog:
14/11/2008 Release of version 0.1
15/11/2008 Version 0.2 - fixed a critical bug that caused the script to hang for a new game start.

Well, the idea for Pandora Tunings comes from X3:Reunion, obviously.
I could change that name Pandora if needed, but the coding here is all my own.

Oh sorry, I thought everyone already knows about those tunings. :o

They are floating crates that contain 10 units of engine or rudder tunings. If you pick them up like any other floating cargo ("drive over them"), they will install themselves into your ship and "pimp" (read overtune) it.
They will bring your ship above the normal possible tuning level - therefore you better pick them up with an already fully tuned ship!

Released version 0.2.

Version 0.1 has a critical bug that could cause new started games to hang and even interfere with the initial "Flight school mission". Big bad oversight from me, doh! :headbang:

There were no negative effects on already running games though.

I was about to tell you although it crapped out my saved game to. I checked the script editor and it shows ALL ships being deletd from the universe as fast as they were being created! Endless loop. Had lots of stations to look at but nary a ship! LOL
Take it light.....

Teladidrone have you thought about going one step further and adding random crates of other stuff all over place e-cells,missles ect ect, there seem to be very few freebies of that kind in TC

None that I am aware of... yet.
But give it some time, bugs are nasty critters I am sure you'll see some again. Eventually. ;)

I've noticed the lack of various freebies in TC, too.
I wont add any other stuff to Pandora though - the objectives of this script here are the tunings only.

More loot/freebies is definitely something that should get its own package/script rather sooner than later.
I'm a little busy with other stuff right now (fighting hard against the dreaded MD), but as soon as I've won this battle I may get back to this. Or someone else might...

Well I don't.
Those crates are created randomly for every game start (or when you install the script for the first time to an already running game).
Spoiler

But your current game knows.
The script places the array of the sectors names used in global variable TD.PANDORA.SECTORS.
You could always read out that variable and narrow the search down... to some degree.
The exact coordinates of the crates within a sector are not saved anywhere though, a little searching would still be necessary.

Will an M5 set to map a sector with a 110Km range be able to find these Pandora Tunings if their present?

In theory - yes.
I mean if your scout gets into scanning range of a tuning box it will appear on the radar like any other flying ware.

However, I am not sure if the vanilla explorer script really follows a true 3-dimensional search pattern... anybody know this?

In X3 Reunion, when using the Explorer Software, you set the range in kms AND the variation from the ecliptic. In X3 TC you are given only the option of setting the range. I've explored about 10 sectors using my M5 and have not found anything yet.

I see that your request for a true 3D search ability in X3 TC has gone unanswered. Perhaps you might consider setting the "z" to something between 0 and 25. At least a search to 110km would have a chance of finding something then. I had my M5 search over 15 sectors and it found nothing.
