[MOD]No Fog/View Distance (24/10/08)

Post by fud » Mon, 20. Oct 08, 20:17

http://www.apexf1.com/x3/TC/mods/TBackgrounds.rar

Removes fog from all sectors and extends viewing distance to about 100km (you'll see things like gates/stations pop up at this range, as opposed to 5 feet in front of you).

I may still mess with the fog/fade in thing, don't know. I've never liked the fog, this was mostly done for myself, but I thought I'd share. :)

Unpack the rar into your x3 terran conflict\types folder. If you don't have a types subfolder, you can just make one.

Thats a real pity they have continued to use the fog...

Will take out my telescope tonight and check for similar fx in the 'real' universe!.

I really did prefer the localised nebuala as in X2

Just found a flaw, working on a repair.

File's been removed as a reult, until I get the fixed one back up (hopefully soon).

It would be really sweet if we could keep the fog but just make it so the backdrops don't show through

Slightly confused about how to enable this "mod". I have scripts enabled but where do I put the "TBackgrounds.txt" file?

Well, if you grabbed the file before I removed it, you should just delete it, as it has an error in it.

That said, TC is different than R with mods.

You can make a "types" folder in your main "x3 terran conflict" folder, then put the file (in txt form) in there and it should work.

I've gone through about 70 sectors so far and there haven't been any issues. Fingers crossed.

I decided to test it out. I've been to 190+ sectors and haven't found the issue that made me pull it before.

If you can wait a while (few hours), I can get the file back up.

Right now, I'm pissed.

Oh, hah.

There's actually an updated TC version of Nebel-Ex's mod in the German forum.

Anyway, here's my verion. It's only got one fixed view distance, Nebel's comes with about 6 to choose from.

http://www.apexf1.com/x3/TC/mods/TBackgrounds.rar

Unzip it and put the txt file in x3 terran conflict\types

If you don't have a \types folder, just make one.

I took a look in the german forum, but it's all Greek to me (or German, lol). I have a question about this: What exactly do you mean by 'fog'? Are you referring to the sectors that are full of clouds (like Paranid Prime's red gas) that prevents you from seeing your hand in front of your face? If you removed that stuff from all the sectors, that would be awesome! I hate not being able to see.

I cannot stand the fog either.... Localized is one thing... like a nebula. But I WANT to see the sights in a sector without blinking at my monitor while trying to see through spots of graphic fog and such. Some of the Terran sectors have this 'pattern' foggish look that keeps popping up... blurring vision... very annoying on the eyes.

Thanx for this fud.

Gave it a go last night, only got to try a few sectors worth, including Omicron Lyrae...it works a treat :D

That's exactly what it does. I hated the fog in X3 the instant I saw it. That and having stations and asteroids just pop up in front of you...

I also added to the view distance with it. You should see gates that are about 100km away (for example). I figured if you were in space, with enough light and no fod/clouds, you should be able to see everything for a pretty good distance.

It may be a little taxing on some older machines though, but it's easy enough to tweak/tone down the distance.

Sorry guys, i forgot to make an english description. I was busy with other things like translating LVs medusa script and work on a nice (german) excel-shiplist.

You can make a cat/dat-File with the types/tbackgrounds.txt (old x2-archiver works fine), create a "mods"-folder in the TC-directory and place the cat/dat in there. After that the mod-botton in the TC-Menu will be activated.

Is there any way to make 2 "mods" like this and the no-civvy mod work together? Or does it have to be one or the other?

They're two different files (TBackgrounds and Jobs). Thus, they'll work together.

You can either pack them together in a cat/dat pair, or put them in the \types subfolder in the main TC folder.
