Why no multiplayer?
For the love of god why is there no multiplayer in this freaking awesome game, do you guys realise how much an online multiplayer mode would kick ass in terran conflict?
You guys should consider realising a version for playing online something like "X3 Open Universe", playing against the AI is something, bulding stations and trading, etc but imagine playing against real players, it would add a whole new element to the game. Perhaps disabeling scripts & mods for this game may be an idea to stop people cheating, as that may obviously be a problem.
I just think it'd be a cool idea, dont know about you guys. Also terran conflict looks beautiful.

Perhaps some sort of offline protection mode from opportunist attackers, where their empire can only trade with others but not attack or be attacked. Also the ability to set instructions for when they're offline.
and yeah your right it'd need a lot of servers and power as you said, but i'm sure egosoft could sort something out if they really wanted to.

Yes, I'm sure the only factor involved here is Egosoft's desire to do something. The costs of developing this extra functionality has no bearing on the decision, nosiree!Electric-Shadow wrote: and yeah your right it'd need a lot of servers and power as you said, but i'm sure egosoft could sort something out if they really wanted to.

I've allready preordered mine from game, I can't wait. X3 is awesome dont get me wrong, the multiplayer is just a kickass suggestion imo , people would surely buy it too.breytac wrote:If you want multiplayer, go and try Eve Online. Just be prepared to put up with being killed, ridiculed and get nowhere fast. Been there, done that. I've got better things to spend my money on (like the upcoming Terran Conflict)
Yes you're right, of course lol, i'm not a complete numskull (allthough i can't deny there is a little in me)pjknibbs wrote:Yes, I'm sure the only factor involved here is Egosoft's desire to do something. I read somewhere that someone tried to make a mod which allowed a "client" to synchronise with a "host" and players would appear like NPCs to the others.
But aparently this failed as it required insane amounts of bandwidth to actually get all the data across from the host to the client. Something in the order of 150MB/s (multicast over several 1Gbit links) and even then there were massive sync issues and it was generally unstable.

Actually the gameplay and technical challenges have little or nothing to do with it. As pjknibbs obliquely implied, it's all about money.Gavrushka wrote:...It would be great but the following responses will tell you why not..
Here's some of them..

Management of empires when player not on line
Pure computing power
We are a 300 K community ... Money should not be a problem.
The question is : DO WE REALLY WANT MULTIPLAYER ?
Perhaps a smart sticky poll about that should be posted by EGOSOFT.
I don't think it would break the forum rules.
Please think about that.
Thank you...

Er, I don't think you quite understand. The size of the player community has nothing to do with it, unless you are about to pass the hat around and demand a few €/$/£ from every forum member. And a poll isn't going to make any difference either. If the money isn't there (we're talking millions here, needed up front, and a year or two before there are likely to be any returns from sales) then it simply isn't going to happen.

That's the sad thing, money is always the problem with these things, I wasn't saying you absolutely had to make a multiplayer version, if it was possible it would be awesome to do.CBJ wrote:Er, I don't think you quite understand. Still we have Terran Conflict to look forward to and from what i've seen of the trailers it looks stunning, but can we have some more vids....pretty please

Problem is : although there are many fans/forumists not many of them would want multiplayer and even less could contribue ...
Quite a big problem I'm afraid.
That would be a first : a game made form the players' money.
Utopy 100% ?
There is a multiplayer X3. It's called EvE-Online.

Not relevant. Elite is vapor-ware.Rapier wrote:What if Bernd had had thought when he decided to make a game many people call a new 'Elite'?
A full-on multiplayer X3 would be expected to directly compete with eve, even if it was never ment to. Then there is the "freelancer" problem of there only being a handfull of usefull (overpowered) ships with the rest just fodder.
The other option would be a multiplayer element run through the combat simulator. That would be considered a gimick.
Best option in my view is Co-op play. Problem here is a basic multiplayer fact. A vast majority of players want to beat the snot out of another human player or team of players. Not help them build something.

Elite was a great game that many of us here played. It was the first free form space trading sim.Kor'ah wrote:Not relevant. Elite is vapor-ware.Rapier wrote:What if Bernd had had thought when he decided to make a game many people call a new 'Elite'?
...
Elite IV is vapour-ware
btw. I've been waiting for a multiplayer version since playing Elite+ on the PC, best part of a coupe of decades ago now.
Multiplayer could be easily done for X3 with very limited cost if it was limited to a single station in each players game where players could meet online and perhaps trade "special" wares that they can only produce in their universe..This would allow for coop among players to some extent and expansion of their own universe with help from other players unique offers....Each game would have 1 player sector where they can set up there galactic trading station for online trades...Of course this player owned sector would not be a give me, but something to work for and achieve before online trading would be unlocked....The classic Quake engine is a perfect example of how easy and non-cpu intensive a gateway could be created linking all these individual player stations together online for chat/trade..etc...Even things such as unique ship/station blueprints could be offered at these swap meets, complete with a new line of wares exclusive to each players universe...All kinds of things could be traded through this gateway, alliances could be created, rules and regulations could be implemented. Battles are of course out of the picture, but it could be a start for some players to play some sort of coop together as they expand and build their universe.
X3..The most fun a man can have...With his clothes on.
Interesting.CBJ wrote:unless you are about to pass the hat around and demand a few €/$/£ from every forum member.
Personally, I would take the risk and invest say the price of a new game.
I wonder how many other forum-users would.
The sticking point for me would be a monthly fee. I don't play often enough to
justify it really.
