X-Beyond the Frontiers Saved game editors?

Post by DeLoreanLover » Thu, 8. May 08, 19:54

Is there any way to change the amount of money in X-Beyond the Frontiers' saved game using some kind of an editor? :?

explains the credits cheat better than the one you were looking at.
You'll need a hex editor like the great ( & free)

There was a better cheat than just credits cheats though, a program that allowed
you to change the performance of any ship type.
Long gone from my disk though, can't even remember the name or author.

Are you talking about the author of the editor or the actual game itself.

Personally, I never saw the need for extra money in X-BTF. Credits were plenty easy to come by once you built a couple of factories. I might understand it more if you were playing X-Tension, the so-called expansion to X-BTF. There were a number of editors developed for that game that bypassed the cheat-protection code in the game. But for me, all I ever added was Mike Kessel's great mod for X-T, that added so much more to the game. In fact, when I think of X-T anymore, it's always Mike's mod that I'm thinking about. I wouldn't replay it without it. :D

410DD is 5 digits, so 266461 credits,
I think there's this divide by 100, ie 2664 so search for 0A68 ?

Not sure what Grimm refers to, the author?

I think I was thinking of what Nanook said, ie X-Tension had the
modding program, as well as Mike Kessel's mod.

I don't know the details, but if you need to convert decimal to hex notation the Windows Calculator can help (if it is installed).

See Start-AllPrograms-Accessories-Calculator.

Then click View and click Scientific. Enter your number and then click Hex.

Click Dec to change back.

Hmmm, confusion...

70CF5 hex is 462069 decimal, which divided by 100 is similar to your '4630.69' credits, was that a typo on the 2?

If you have 4620.69 credits I understand you should be able to find
in your file the hex of 462069 i.e. 070CF5

"this should be in your file near the location BC90,
- also repeated further up as well, you have to change it in two places"

But it seems there can be complications:
http://www.pccheater.co.uk/cheats/x/xbtf-hexchaz.htm

what are you using to search the file with?

There's also a game-save with loads of money already in it at

Nope, it was written by a chap called StoneD. I'm afraid I've no idea where you can get the editor now though, as both CJ's site and the site it was archived to are long gone.

I was able to get over 21 million credits by editing the save file in a hex editor. Follow the below steps and it will work.

*** Back up your save file before editing it !! ***

Download a free hex editor (I use Hex workshop editor 64bit).
Write down how many credits you currently have.
Open calculator and switch to programmer mode then click decimal on left side. Enter amount of credits without the decimal and write down the hex code on left.
Open your save file in hex editor then enter the hex code into the search field (little binoculars) If you use the editor I use. Also, make sure you adjust the setting in the search to search entire file and change from text string to hex.

Note *< This is where it gets a bit confusing. If you do not locate your hex code, first make sure you adjusted the setting, if still cannot find it then you will have to adjust your credits in the game to change your hex value then repeat the above process. >*

When you locate the hex code look at the bottom to see how many instances, you will have to change them all!
Change the hex to the following (FF FF FF) now this alone will not give you 21 million credits. In order to get 21 million you must change the last two hex values in front of your hex to 7F. So the finished product should look like 7F FF FF FF.

Just so you are aware, I tried to acquire more than 21 million, I believe it goes over the integer set by the developers and it causes you to have negative credits.

If successful you will now have 21 million credits! Go buy whatever you want and once out of credits repeat above process to get another 21 million.

Note *< If you are playing XBF through Steam app you will have to start the game to display the menu then you save your altered hex file. If you do not do this it will revert the save file back to the original. It took me a while to figure this out, I thought I was doing something wrong or the hex editing trick was bogus. I am not sure if this applies to the disc version, I had to purchase the digital version since my laptop doe not have a drive to install my old disc.
