To spray or not to spray??

Thats about it I'm afraid, so the effect is practically none,
the shader saturation is colour related only.
Shame about that,
although it might be a little difficult to see a black Hyperion or Raptor:
if you see what I mean:

a black dragon might be marginally more interesting

Yeah.

But that's the whole point. I wanna look like a shadow, a Shade of Death. They won't see me until it's too late.although it might be a little difficult to see a black Hyperion or Raptor:....

I suspect there's a wicked twist to this, as it doesn't seem to be consistent between ships of different races.
Consider the two color bars in previous posts:
[ external image ]
The top one is hue 320, the middle is hue 0 and bottom is hue 90 (all saturation at 256). This progression appears to work in line with Woffin's post. Next up, some Paranid Demeters:
[ external image ]
The top one is hue 0, next is 180, then 320 and the bottom one is 90 (sorry it's not in order). Again, saturation is 256 in all cases. This seems to follow Dave's post.
So it would appear someone is making this very difficult to predict what color you'll get for what number you put in. We definitely need a color chart, and it looks like we need more than one (one for each race).
I wonder how many more variations there are... Haven't tried Teladi stuff yet...

I'm trying to figure out some nice colors for my fleet, which involves a mix of ships from different races. Here I have some Split Mambas (sorry for the quality...Argon Prime isn't very good at providing light for photos):Dave Toome wrote:[ external image ]

HUE_ZEROPOS of Split and Paranid seem to differ by 10 in that list, but in Woffin's and Dave's bars they differ more.Iveco wrote:Code: Select all

I'm not much of a graphics designer, so I'm no good where hue, etc. comes in. In simpler terms, where in the rainbow is hue "0" supposed to be? And in the case of Split vs Paranid, how can a dfference of 10 make green for Split come in at the low 100's, but for Paranid it's more into the 200's?
I'm working over here trying to make up a new chart through tedious experimentation, and I think I have a close approximation for Split now. The colors don't exactly match, so I'm guessing they "mix" with the inherent natural color of the Split ship hull material, but at least it gives a general reference -- VERY general.
I'm also working on Paranid, but theirs trend more in the way of pastels on polished metal (making some of it hard to distinguish).
If you've ever seen colored aluminum seasonal items during Easter, that'll give you an idea for the Paranid, whereas the Split stuff looks like dirt with a bit of glitter thrown on it.
Ultimately, though, it'll take someone with a better eye and better tools, and maybe the utilities to pull out the texture meshes from the game to play with and get actual samples to make a more accurate chart.
