[script] Asteroid Creator v1.2 (29/1/07)
Finally getting around to making a proper release of the script.
How it works:
1. Via special commands menu, you choose "create asteroid", this will prompt you to pick a sector, and location to place the new rock (works like placing a station with the numpad arrows).
2. Select ore, silicon, or nividium.
3. You input your yield (I've done yields up to 300 with no problems, be warned tho, these will take A LOT of ecells to mine).
4. After inputting the yield you want, you will recieve an instant message, containing one of two messages:
a. An "estimate" of the cost of the asteroid (not cheap*), with yes/no options.
b. A message stating you do not have the required credits for that yield (will kill the script).
If you have enough in your account and choose "yes", a new asteroid will be created. You can then place a mine on it, and start mining.
Asteroid Creator
*Each asteroid's price is based on 100000 to 110000 credits per 1 yield. So, a 10 yield asteroid, will run you between 1M and 1.1M credits.

MJALowe: if you aren't worried about the yields you could always just build lots of cheap 'roids and put them in a pattern.
Heh, I wonder if you could build a 'roid tunnel from one gate to the other just for fun... *Thinks of lots of pointless but fun things to do with this script*
Thanks for this Fud, now I don't need to worry about running out of resources!

Ashley's XXL mod (factories). It was actually the reason I made this script, to compliment that mod.
In all actuality tho, just putting an L-sized mine on a huge asteroid like that will chuck out enough for just about anything you'll ever need.
Before the XXL mines got working, I was only using Ls. An L mine on a 200 yield silicon mine will supply 20 Crystal M fabs. An L ore mine on 200 yield will supply enough ore for 40 GPPC fabs as well.
So the XL and XXL mines are really over the top.

Ah, thanks for that. My PHQ is in a sector full of silicon but with very little ore, so this script will be handy. I doubt I'll need a 200 yield 'roid with an XXL Mine though!
I've a half-baked idea for a mod/script at the moment, and these spawned 'roids could work well with it. That is, once I learn how to script!

Has anyone else had a problem with the shields running down from the moment you build the mine. I don't know what is causing it but I put a nividium mine a nividium astroid and after the first minute the shields started to slowly collapse!!! This continues until the station eventually blows up!!!!
Any ideas folks??????????
Playing X3 (latest version) various mods attached mainly by cycrow.

Are they by themselves or in a complex?
If they're in a complex, I'd say you have one of the other factories too close. Asteroids are big. If you have two stations "rubbing" each other, one or both will eventually explode.
A tell-tale sign is if you get close to the station, and hear a grinding noise (like when you bump into another ship with yours).
The script has nothing in it about mines, it just creates the rocks. But, if you create them too close together and put a mine on one, it's likely the mine will eventual die a fiery death.
