NEWS: Egosoft enters the age of Steam
No, we're not developing a train simulator, nor has a new race appeared in the X-Universe with steam-powered spacecraft!
In order to bring both X²: The Threat and X³: Reunion to the widest possible audience, there is now a new way to buy them that means you don't even have to leave your seat. Just head over to Steam where you can purchase both games for download directly to your PC. No more disks and an excellent price, especially for those who act quickly.
Since the Steam version does not include a registration code, access restrictions on forums and downloads relating to X³: Reunion have been lifted.

Erm, the updates are already available...Diesel309 wrote:Good point, whoever had the idea and made the deal deserves a pay rise and share options. This is the best idea since bread let alone sliced bread. I hope it goes well for Egosoft, just make sure those updates are available or you will have 6 months of moaning like you did last time

To be honest Erius if it is just file structure I'm sure they will work, if not the guy's in S&M will be able to change them very easily.
Oh and I think it has already been said but maybe not in this post, but just because you have the DVD/CD's does not mean you can use X3 with Steam. I think you have to buy it through Steam to use it through Steam.

I don't see why not. As far as I know, the file and folder structure for the game itself is no different than the DVD version.Erius wrote:Will all the modifications and tools that work with the DVD version work with steam? Since it automatically updates it may try to overwrite changes files. In the same context, does it have the same file structure and launch menu?

It's possible that the updates for X² and X³ are not handled automatically by Steam. As far as patches, the games should (hopefully) already be up to date anyway.Tracker001 wrote:How would it hanndle any scripts/ mods ?
If X2/X3 are updated automaticlly, from steam.

Im downloading X3 on steam at 546KB/s. Must be your connection to steam or the servers are just slowing down. Steam is a great way to distribute games. If your system is stable, there should be no problems. Ive had Steam for a long time and never had any problems with getting the games or purchasing them. Also, you can backup your games onto a cd/dvd so you wont need to d/l them again.AceofproZ wrote:True that, regarding the hype.Diesel309 wrote:And it was answered if you read back. The answer was soon, does it matter? my DVD drive hasn't exploded yet has yours . Too much hype over a copyright program or what!
I'm still confused as to how software causes hardware failure. I'm a hardware engineer and I don't see the problem. If your hardware is so weak that it cannot be taxed a bit, then of course it will fail. If you buy cheap thats what you get.
When the starforce protection system scans the DVD it only does for 2 or 3 seconds its not that long, so truly there shouldnt be a problem. What the problem is is the laziness of people to open the disc, insert and let it run. lol
By the way guys some feedback on the Steam system, im currently downloading X2 the threat on Steam and its going at about 60 Kb/s, so far a moderately slow download. Im not certain if this is normal or if its just been happening to me. Would appreciate some input for others who are downloading/have downloaded X2 or X3 on Steam.
