File association problem

Post by Gary Bolton » Fri, 7. Nov 03, 19:27

Ever since I installed Fireworks MX, I have noticed that all my JPEG and GIF images are being opened up with the program. I can see no settings in the programs preferences to change this option.

Anybody got any idears, because it's a bit of a pain when everytime I double click a JPEG or GIF image, I'm left with Fireworks opening the files. Which I do not want to happen.

I know I can make it so another program like Adobe Photohop will open them instead, but I kind of wanted to go back to were Windows XP dealt with them all by default, instead of an installed package.

Im using Windows 200 so this method should be similar
First you need to know what program it is you want to use an where it it located then you go to Tools>Folder Options then while there go to File Types
This will give you a long list of all avalible file types associated with all you programs.
Now scroll down to you desired ile type (.gif & .jpeg) and then click "Change" this will give you a (hopefully) shorter list of what you now want Windows to use, if you cant find it then click other and manually find the file
Works every time with me
Hope it helps :)

It beats me why you want WinXP to handle all your graphic files. I use ACDSee 6 and that proggie does it better than ANY Windows version ever will. Even the older versions of ACDSee are miles better than WinXP's graphic viewer ever could do.

I still let PhotoShop or PaintShopPro handle their respective file formats.

Just my 2 cents worth

Cheers

No doubt your right about that, but I just like XP to deal with them by default, and use programs like Adobe, and Paintshop Pro to open them manually when need be from within the programs, rather than having them associated with the files by default. For quick viewing I prefare XP to deal with them.

I just like to do things a bit different, thats all.
