Aaaaaarghhhhhh!!!!!
I'm a complete idiot...
I've just fough a massive battle against not one but 2 Khaak Clusters in Ore Belt... with my Mamba Raider... which meant lots of Wasp missiles, lots of running (and let my rear MD turret work on them) and I eventually jumped out of the sector when my shields were at about 1%, just got perfect timing...
So I'm sitting all smug in Home of Light, North Gate, slow down engines to have a think, see what I need, and BANG!! A big ass Mammoth comes through the North Gate from Argon Prime... GAME OVER...

Ouch

Yes...I know, I think I just felt calmed and safe for a moment after the heat of battle...
Won't be making that mistake again...
Has anyone ever started a thread on the stupid things we as users have done, as opposed to everyone just whining about the AI...
Bet there's been some howlers...
I once capped a Freighter that had 5 1GJ shields on board.... I happily sent it off to the nearest safe sector and carried on my capping, and the bloody thing got attacked and destroyed...

Been there, done that. What I love, is when you're *just* about to the gate to flee to safety, and one of those big bastards comes thru. "THE END".......
I learned a long time ago, gates are busy places, sitting in front of one, or even traveling at the default 13m/s after entering is nothing short of suicide.
I've also learned to go into gates close to the edge, I *never* go at the center. You're chances of tanking a Freighter/fighter on the edge is far less great than ending up a grease spot on the front of a Mammoth.
At least your capped freighter got attacked, I've had the same thing heppen, only the stupid f**cker crashed against the station it was supposed to land at.

I was setting up a complex in Elena's Fortune, had moved the silicon mine with the tractor beam over about three hours to the south west corner of the sector, then started bringing in the the factories, and everytime I jumped in I splatted some poor argon, including 2 M6's and lost about 20% of my Argon rep building the complex!
And for your next trick, try SETA by a docking port
I've smacked into ships coming the other way through a gate far too many times.
It seems to be a constant that this only occurs when the loss of the game will be really annoying/costly. In my case it always seems to happen when I've explored and revealed a load more sectors. It's happened then so many times at this point for me that I started to feel paranoid about it

I've been run over a few times. I'm sure this is pay back for me running other ships down in TL's and other capships in XT and X2
scary thing happened yesterday. I got my buster a bit shot up so limping into siezewell I was only doing ~50 as I left the gate. there was a steady stream of TS's following me in all doing around 100 and missing me by inches. Bit of a close your eyes and prey moment as I heard the next TS pass very close

The most stupid thing so far happened a few days ago.
After just having killed several pirates, and picking up the loot flying around everywhere, I went for the Vanguard that I made the pilot leave.
Claimed it, send it to a shipyard, and turned towards my Buster to re-enter.
"Hey", I thought...."let me try to stand on a wing, for a nice screenie"...
POOOFFFF!!!
I got killed by my Buster's shields!!!
Of course, I didn't save game yet, and so my precious loot and Vanguard were gone, lol...not to mention all the credits and promotions that the battle brought me.

Its not even that fun when you are the one in the capship running others over, beleive me. I have spent the last couple of weeks trying my utmost to improve my split rank so I can buy rapters. But anyways, I jumped into Thyness' abyss in my Titan - mistake one. Hit 'tab' the moment I came throw - mistake two, and...ran over a split weapons dealer with all three of his punny M5 escorts who were waiting their turn to use the gate.
Being a good driver, I stopped to find out what happened, and just as I was smarting over the lost race points, I hear a 'bang' and 'aaarrrgh!' and my split rank dropped another chunk right in front of my eyes as some haplse split ship came through the gate after me and promply splattered himself on the arss of my titan.

Re gate travel: I learned a long time ago (the hard way, I might add ) to follow the proper traffic patterns when entering a gate. Small NPC ships always enter low and exit high. NPC cap ships always use the middle. Of course, even with that knowledge, I'm not immune to a little stupidity. Just a couple days ago, I came through one gate in my big ol' Demeter Superfreighter, coasting at 13 m/s, and was in the process of checking the Best Buy/Sell locations, when BAM! AAARRGGHHH!. A little old Mercury, I think it was (had an Argon accent) plowed into my rearend and exploded. Lost some Argon rep, but gained a pile of Meatsteak Cahoonas.

Don't know if you've ever noticed this, but some NPC TS's come shooting out of the gates, sometimes at well over 200 m/s (seen some close to 300 m/s!!), before slowing down to their true max speed. First time I saw this, I thought those ships were special, highspeed versions, but unfortunately they weren't. Having one of those guys pass by very close when I'm entering a sector has made me jump in my chair more than once.moggy2 wrote:I've been run over a few times. I recently started my new BA game and I just hit my 30M marker. I've already bought salvage insurance twice. The first time I had about 2 million and spent about 90k on SI. This most recent time I bought 300 at the station.
Never leave a station without it (except to go get it of course).
I don't mind taking my lumps that are part of the game, but stupid AI doing stupid things that make me angry isn't part of my game anymore. AI does something dumb I load my previous save and make it stop doing the dumb thing.
I've only splatted a couple of freighters in my previous game (Normal storyline) and each time I would msg the local cops and declare my innocense. Reset my rep each time without trouble. Any freighters that weren't blown up by me I msged to let them know it wasn't intentional as well.
What really gets me is the stupid ass fact that the AI never uses the boost extension to get up to speed, especially when clearing gates. IMHO a TL/M1/M2 needs to use BE to get clear the second it jumps.
I have learned that it is impossible to jump a fleet in-sector together. If I'm jumping cap ships in sector I jump each one manually or jump them to different gates. Cap ships in formation always kill each other if they jump consecutively.

One nice thing though: That certain ship you can get with a certain amount of shielding in a certain place etc... etc... is almost as good as a Nova M3 in combat if you use the extra shields as a battering ram. Nothing like dropping the shields on some Ls in XI missions and then simply saving the WG energy by burrowing a hole through the middle of the L. Hardly scratches the shields and let's your WG recharge for the next shield removal job.
It's a great way to fight in a merc or centaur as well: just maneuver to hit them.
