[SCRIPT] Explorer Software
Title: Explorer Software
Version: 1.1
Download: www.xai-corp.net/project/ExplorerSoftware
Description:
Various commands to aid in the exploration of the galaxy
----
The Explorer Software is a cheap software upgrade available from Teladi Equipment docks. Once installed on a ship the upgrade provides 3 new commands.
1 Navigation -> Fly Through gate...
- This command allows you to specify a gate to fly through. In difference to the fly to sector command, this allows you to fly through gates where the destination sector has not previously been visited.
2 Navigation -> explore sector...
- This command causes the ship to fly in circles round the sector, revealing stations, gates and asteroids as they pass within scanner range.
- To use the command you select a central point around which to explore, set a maximum range from that point to explore and set a "ecliptic variance".
- This can be used to reveal a new sector or to locate a hard to find gate.
3 Special -> scan asteroid(s)
- This command will scan asteroids in the sector.
- Select the first asteroid to scan, then set the maximum number of asteroids to scan.
The explore sector command flys a square around the central point. This is only 2 dimentional, parallel to the ecliptic plane of the sector. The aditional input of "ecliptic variance" allows a random fluctuation within the 3rd dimention between points, allowing you to scan a slightly larger area. Values for this are typically between 0 and 10.
The fly through gate command was written by Xenon_Slayer

I just tried this (v1.1) on my 1.4.02 version and don't get the additional commands to show up at all. I installed it via cyrow's script installer, and do see some init scripts in the script editor for it. (tried running those manually but still nothing).
Is this still beta or something or just not compatible w/ 1.4.02? The only item that I want out of this is the asteroid scanning piece.

I had noticed that, but I can't see any reason for it.
The exact trigger for the command completed message isn't known so it's a bit difficult to debug.
I did have a play with it to see if I could sort this out a while back but aI guess it didn't work if you've downloaded this recently and are still having problems.
I'll have another look

Some more features:
The scan asteroids command tends to give up in heavily rocky sectors before all asteroids have been scanned. Setting numbers of roids to scan to some some huge number does not seem to make a difference. For example, mines of fortune took quite a few tries to get completely mapped. Sectors with <10 rocks are usually OK.
You cannot issue "explore sector" command for another sector. The ship will fly to the target sector and quit.

Just tried, no joy: the webpage says: Download latest release (X3.1.1, 2006-05-31 17:44, 39.07 KB), the file is still called ExplorerSoftware-X3.1.1.spk and fc still says "no difference found"moggy2 wrote: ok![]()
