Commodities Spreadsheet

Post by MrBigTime »

I made this sheet for my own reference, but thought I'd post it here in case it helps anyone else out. It's a list of all commodities, their prices, sizes, and ware class. I copied that information from Merroc's complex calculator. (Credit where credit's due). There's four columns that I added.

Price Spread---The difference between best buying and best selling price
Profit/Cargo Unit---The amount of profit made per unit of cargo space
ROI----Return on Investment: Percentage profit based on amount spent
Max Price Modifier---Determines which selling price is used to calculate Price Spread

I did this to help decide what wares to trade in. Before you have enough credits to fill your cargo hold with the wares, find high ROI wares (most profit per credit spent). If you have the creds to fill your cargo hold of anything, look for the high profit per cargo unit wares.

I've made a similar spreadsheet as well for my use. Comparing to mine, I have some things to point out.

First, I find it much much to organize products by category, rather than alphabetically. So first I have my common products, such as energy cells, bofu, swamp plant, silicon wafers, etc. These are much easier to find and trade in. Then I have high-techs, then weapons, then shields, and finally missiles. I've found this works out extremely well.

Second, you need to keep in mind that something like an Alpha PPC can only be sold for average price. You can't sell it for a higher price. So you need to make sure you have that as your max price. There is a few products that pirate bases buy at maximum price. I have column for that, but since there's only 5 products, I'm not sure it's worth it. Still, something to keep in mind.

Some products are not buyable, such as slaves, so I highlight them to make it easy to notice this.

Another column I have (but is pretty incomplete) is the max units a station can hold. For example, a lasertower factory can only sell 8 max at a time. Thought this would be useful, though honestly, I haven't really bothered with using this info.

Looks good, though. I'd use it if I didn't already have my own.

That's what the Max Price Modifier column is there for. The formula that figures out the Price Spread checks the value of the Max Price Modifier to determine which price to look at.

I knew of Space weed and Space Fuel being bought at max price at Pirate Bases. What are the other three?
