X-Tended - Terran Conflict (XTC)

The X-Tended Team have been working on a new mod since before X3: Terran Conflict itself was released. Things have been pretty silent from us for quite a while now, but the project is not dead. We were merely waiting for the right time to say something about it. :)

The mod certainly hasn't been finished, and is still far from completion, but we have already done a lot of work and invested months of time in it. We have good reasons not to release too much information just now, one important thing we decided back in autumn is that we are not going to promote any feature which hasn't been fully implemented yet. That way we believe we can stay true to the things we announce and avoid disappointment for the fans because a promised feature didn't make it into the release version.

We do not have a concrete, or even an approximate, release date set yet. Looking at the amount of work we have already done, and looking at what we still want to complete before the first release, we think that we are going to get a release in the fourth quarter of 2009, but with a project of this size that could slip a little.

While we cannot tell you much about what particular features are going to be included in the mod, we can of course state the obvious:

* There are going to be new sectors
* There are going to be new ships

Furthermore we have set ourselves several goals which we want to complete: In the original X-Tended Mod's core there were many new ships, above all the M7 class (as The X-Tended Mod's original name, the M7 Mod, indicates).

As many of the ships were included in X3: Terran Conflict through many of the original X-Tended Mod's creators becoming co-developers with EGOSOFT themselves, and with all the remaining X-Tended ships gifted to the team by their creator Mox, we have more time to invest in other areas while still featuring new ships. This allows us to focus upon areas which the original X-Tended Mod didn't as a general rule: Storytelling and general game play.

X-Tended - Terran Conflict will feature a new setting created from all the information we could find in the games and polished by detailed information we picked from the various X-universe books available from Helge himself. Like the original X-Tended Mod, we strive to keep the X universe's authentic feeling intact, and we will only add new content that is fitting and expanding upon this unique game-universe.

Gameplay wise we have decided to make it more challenging for the player. The games of the X-series have always been games in which the player has to invest hours and hours. Sadly, this aspect was weakened in X3: Terran Conflict. We will aim to make it more challenging again while keeping the game in balance.

Now for some eye-candy. A few early development shots. (All content subject to change as we develop the mod further)

That concludes what we're willing to release in terms of information just now. ;)

Please feel free to use this thread as a place to discuss the mod in general, as all news we're going to release will be in this topic.

I guess all gates leading to the sector in the last picture is on the other side of the asteroid just for laughs? ;)

Out of curiosity, about how many new sectors can be awaited? Will there be about 10-15 new sectors, or have you somehow worked around the galaxy map limitations of X3:TC ?

And another question - can we expect new ships that have not appeared in XTM / X3-TC yet? (Though I reckon this might be an NDA thing, so no hard feelings if this one slides by)..

P.S. Great news ;)

There will be more than 15.

There will be some new ships, but this is not the main focus of X-Tended any more.

That's great news. Love to see what you guys have cooked up. ;)

Great story lines and game play improvements are always welcome. Of course I am just as curious about the new ships. Even if it is not your main focus. ;)

I personally hope the next "X-Tended" is LESS combat-focussed, which is somewhat i hope from reading "more storyline". Since the last one in X3:R was a bit over the top, especially the permanent Wasp-spamming J's although they didn't even have some on board.

But we will see ...
... what is a drop of rain, compared to the storm? ... what is a thought, compared to the mind? ... our unity is full of wonder which your tiny individualism cannot even conceive ... I've heard it all before ... you're saying nothing new ... I thought I saw a rainbow ... but I guess it wasn't true ... you cannot make me listen ... I cannot make you hear ... you find your way to heaven ... I'll meet you when you're there ...

Yypeeeeeee!!!!! this is what I wanted to hear!!!!
I don't want all the new TC fluff!

I want a great challenging and immersive game!
Intriguing plots with missions that require planning, skill and intelligence; not only a Boreas.
This mod (as the version for Reunion) is what I waited for ages!

too bad that probably after this is released most of the modding will cease... nothing can stand against a such super-mega-extra-uber-good Mod... :D

X-tended for reunion added a lot of new sectors, that was cool.
TC added new sectors onto reunion, particularly the terran sectors, and populated them. There are a 'lot' more jobs in TC, which very largely contributes to a performance drop.
What I'm mostly concerned/interested to know at this point is how much you guys are thinking about the performance side of things, or if you're going for a long lasting mod that you figure people will eventually be using on upgraded PCs.

I always wanted epic huge battles but most computers just can't handle it.

But this is really exciting :D

Performance is one of the major things we have been keeping in mind. We hired a cyber-ninja to fix it. ^^

For anyone who would like a performance boost and doesn't mind a very minor drop in their GFX looks (and I mean minor, you don't really notice it unless you look really hard), replace the shaders by dropping the old X3R ones in. ;)

And before anyone asks, no we are not doing that in XTC. :)

There are actually less jobs in TC than we had in XTM, so the performance problem is elsewhere in TC. I'm not saying that extra jobs don't give a performance hit, but that they are not the biggest factor to bad performance in TC.
