Edit: Installed new version, nothing changed (atleast I don't see anything changed. Must be because I had the old version and installed on it?) And it still crashes when I exit it

It finds my Steam installation OK, but it crashes while its 'updating files' any time I actually try to use it. :(

I think it may be the same error as this guy ^ XPMInstaller or something....

Just installed new version to test (I uninstalled the old version so it was a clean install)

Installed fine with no problems but I think there is still a problem with the steam settings.

The start up wizard put the directory as C:\Program Files\Steam and when I went into the installer everything was grayed out so I couldn't install any scripts.

I used the "search for X" function and it found the directory as C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\x3 terran conflict that is the correct directory but everything was still grayed out so I couldn't install anything.

So instead I clicked the browse button and navigated manually to the directory and it worked perfect. Not sure if was anything I done wrong but the start up wizard is definately pointing to the wrong directory.

Other than that it is working fine, no crashes and scripts install fine.

Conversion suggestion: instead of converting to TC on install, maybe a drop box or radial button selecting which game on the main page in the ship creator? With that button determining laser, missile and race(and corporation) choice and it being converted once saved.

Same experiences as Rimes:

Also after manually adding the directory for X3:TC, I don't have launch game button. There is only the Exit button for use. Not sure if its meant to be like this, but i remember from the Reunion version. I could launch the game from your program.

some of the options are now disabled by default. If you go into the installer config, you should be able to enable them all

i also run ultimate 64 and XP 64 bit. for all versions of vista as well as XP 64 bit; to avoid the crashes on exiting manager you will need to put manager in windows 98 compatibility mode.

I think that this has been reported, but I get a crash when I exit the program. It works fine, but it's still annoying.

what error is it, and when does it happen ?

u could try deleting the config.dat file from the main program directory and then try to open it up

Just to confirm, running Vista 64bit, setting compatibility to Windows 98 / Me cured the problem for me also.

Came to report this as a bug, but it seems quite popular :P

The above fix has also worked for me, running Vista Home Premium 64-bit

"XPMInstaller.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close"

Code: Select all

AppName: xpminstaller.exe
AppVer: 0.0.0.0
ModName: msvcp60d.dll
ModVer: 6.0.8972.0
Offset: 0000be48
When the program starts the loading dialog gets to "Updating file lists"

renaming/moving Config.dat didn't change anything....

Running it with -verbose generates an empty 'Temp' folder, no log file.....

I also encounter an error, when i close the program. vista 64 reports that the program has stopped working. I used the advice here to change the program to 98 compatibility mode - i have however been using it while it was crashing, does it really matter that it crashes on exit? Does it have a chance to 'prepare the game directory'? Whatever that is.
